What is a good wordpress alternative?

I would like to have a site where I post about a couple times a week, but I don't want it to look "blog-like". It's not really supposed to be strictly a blog as I will post live-action and animated videos I created. I also want it to have a trendy fresh look to it. What are my options?

Durpal, Joomla and other CMS-based systems can all support this but they'll more than likely be a bit more complex than you are looking for. I've seen some pretty intense Wordpress sites where they don't look like a purely blog-driven interface.
I've personally gotten into Moveable Type over the past 6 months for a similar endeavor. I'd say give that a gander as it's fairly simple and not nearly as complex as a full CMS system but still powerful enough to really get creative. The catch is you'll have to do a little bit of work (or hire someone or buy a template) to get the look you want.

You can make a wordpress sight look as bloglike or NOT as bloglike as you want. Design what you want in Fireworks or Photoshop, slice it, and code it using a blank wordpress theme (a theme with no styling, just the basic template codes). You can configure it anyway you want. You can have a sidebar or not, or you can move the sidebar to be a footer or a header, or what ever you need. It's very versatile if you can code html and css and start with a blank wordpress theme.

It's hard to beat the simplicity of wp.
And now with all the available themes and plug ins ... it becomes impossible to beat wp for simplicity!
For less than a $100 on a good theme, you get a very professional looking site that doesn't resemble a blog.

I think the best supported one is joomla.

Believe me there is more than 100 Wordpress themes which allow you to change all of your website layout. just try to search for Premium Themes.

Remember, do not stop, reload or restart while the process is going on. It seems at times that the importing process is stuck, but it is continuing in the background. After all is done, it will tell you it is done and you can ‘Move on”…

I'm also going to recommend ... Wordpress. There's really no limit on what a Wordpress based website can look like or be organized as. You can use pages to set up static URLs or you can use posts to add content in a more 'blog-like' reverse chronological order.
Just check out some of the available themes, look around in the PHP and CSS files and you can learn to customize them further pretty quickly.

Another vote for WP here. I've created some interesting sites with it. Also, once you learn the theme process, it's even faster to create new sites for clients. I'm almost at a point where every client I create a site for uses WordPress. I've just got to convince one more client and KA-CHING

Neither of my WordPress powered sites look 'blog-like'
some examples are xolution.nl and oesorichtlijnen.nl.

I personally think wordpress is an excellent piece of software and you can fully customise it to change the feel entierly.
As pointed out it does not have to look or feel like a blog.
If you are totally against it though. Joomla or Mambo are good alternaatives.

Drupal is a good option, it has a blog option but is extremely versatile thanks to quite a few mods. and themes.
