LXAdmin

What are some reasons everyone says LXA isn't up to par with CPanel/DA?
I have always used CPanel, but I have a test VPS with LXA and I think it works great

Hi sc2sick,
1. Most Webhosters have very, very little tech. knowhow. They tend to be sheeple. Simply follow the herd - what went before.
E.g. here is a quick look at some of the tech. negatives of D.A.: "Comparison Matrix: How Does ZZ Servers"https://www.zzservers.com/support/in...

LXA in my opinion is the best control panel out there. It offers everything an admin will need to get the job done while using a fraction of resources compared to cpanel or plesk.
Cpanel
Easy to use even for beginners
Uses a decent amount of resources at idle
Cost associated with licensing
Great support especially for beginners to advanced users
LXAdmin
Free
Simple one line install (you can not mess the install up unless you can't type).
Only supported on systems running Centos
22Megs of ram usage at idle (AMAZING)
lighttpd or apache
Decent support from maker.
This is not a cpanel for beginners or learners. This is a cpanel for admins who know what they are doing and what hey want out of there box which is why some state there is a lack of support when really there is no lack when dealing with more advanced issues.
I have been using lxadmin for over a year now and there is no better cpanel IMO.

One of the principals was astounded at a problem their users were getting by expecting the system to be logical. He seemed shocked to learn that most of their clients must come from a CPanel background.
It was all we had, remember?
4. LXA: I'm trying to get it to go on a VPS right now and it is buggy - AND no docs AND poor support.
I WILL persevere because those who get it to go rave about it and its feature descriptions are great.
I'm about to post here under: CONTROL PANEL SECRETS
Cheers!

3: The further I go with it, the better it looks! BUT despite obvious willingness by the owners, the INSTALL support structure is all over the place.
I have suggested numerous changes to simplify introducing it especially to people leaving CPanel and others. The first "problem" is that it is actually so advanced! It is an all-in-one solution for end-users and Hosters and sub-hosters.
The difficulty is that in one all-in presentation you are facing many new (to most) concepts and applications.
"Problem" 2: It is advancing/evolving so fast that the team (typically of software development!) is waaaay behind on documentation. However, I found "hidden away" an actual set of docs for it. Not mentioned anywhere in my searching the support site! So they do have docs!
They desperately need to setup complete divisions between the potential users:
Resellers and end-users.
Migrants from other products - esp. CPanel.
I certainly didn't get a "1 button install". Never did with Virtualmin either.
To conclude so far:
To clarify: Their support is - actually - very willing. Just not organised for the vastly different experience levels of users.
Now that I've found the "secret" docs, I will start with them. I've already learned of several critical "gotchas" in setting up Servers, the hard way.
(You know, AFTER the disaster when the Support of whatever-product tells you, "oh, you should have ......... first!") Who knew that?
The package is fantastic for serious competent Webhosters!
If I was still a masochist (a Webhoster), I would gear up my whole hosting operation around it. I would be able to make my operation stand out from the pack while simultaneously offering a faster, much safer, amazingly less power-hungry service, very economically, to the end-user.DISCLAIMER: I am not now, nor ever was a communist... er... vested interest in this product. Not even to flog it. I just want to USE it!

I really enjoy LXA for the most part. I have a VPS with cPanel that I host client sites on, but I use LXA VPSs for personal sites. I prefer to have my personal sites on a small VPS rather than shared hosting as I am a bit of a control freak, and I can set things up the way I like.
LXA is so lightweight and easy to use that it allows me to have a tiny VPS that is similar in cost to a shared hosting account with all the advantages of having my own server. Having used cPanel and DA as well, I really do enjoy LXA.
I haven't tried it on client accounts yet because they are used to setting up their own things via cPanel and I am not in a rush to try to train them.
The one thing that I would love to see in LXA is a cPanel import mechanism of some sort. That would make things so much easier!

Just to clarify:
"One button install"
Yes, the basic system does go on under CentOS5 in one step on VPS.
Getting it to *work* as a usable Hosting platform was my sticking point.
I couldn't find any usable docs anywhere.
They were well hidden for some reason....http://doc.lxlabs.com/lxadmin/
ALSO they keep improving it DAILY.

I don't like LXA because it's still a bit buggy and when you do need support, you have to wait until it's daytime in India for the developer to reply. Many customers seem to have problems with it because it can be a little tricky to find certain features you need, such as adding a domain (For some clients), creating FTP accounts and what not. It's a bit of a hassle, but for being free, it's really nice!

I have been using lxa way before its lightest version HiB was created.
It was NEVER buggy, If you are stuck somewhere it dont means it s buggy, I have extensively used it and never had any problem.
For support phrase, yes it has hiccups, for some days it goes completely down, but when its up, there s no day or night, u ask and they reply before u could reopen your email. They seriously need to have a strategy for support and billing. Other then this i cant agree that this is a buggy software, rather way less buggy then other panels.
