Hi members,
I recently went through this forum and found it really interesting and informative.
I am interested to know about the 3 Managed Dedicated Web Hosting cos'., namely,

Rackspace,
Datapipe and
Webreseller.

It would be nice, if any one of you out there could provide me information on these companies regarding their prices, data backup and etc.

I know you would guide your new member on the block!

Take care from the,

Caretaker

You cannot go wrong with RackSpace. Excellent but pricey if within your budget go for it.

I do not know anythng about DataPipe.

Webreseller sucks from my personal experience, Tho you will find some on here that swear by them. My experience has been they are liars and lack basic customer service skills.

Can't go wrong with Rackspace if you like their prices (which is higher than average). You get what you pay for.

Yup Rackspace has excellent customer service.:)

I hounded one of their sales agents for a week with questions. Received prompt and informed answers. :)

Although I never had a server with them, if I had the funds tha'd be the place i'd go.

If only Rackspace had descent spec servers in the $400 to $500/mth price bracket, I'd have a few there in a heartbeat.

Hey Hostkookster,
ya i have heard about Rackspace being one of the best dedicated web hosting provider. I wanted to ask you, are their prices negotiable, if convinced properly though, what do you think? Or heard about it from anyone else, do let me know.
thanks

Apparently Rackspace is a winner by most people's standards. I personally think their prices are too high to really turn much of a profit and the work I put into each server (that's my fault) makes it not really worth it. It's good quality, I'm sure, but I have no need for their support at all, unless some hardware goes bad or a file is corrupted and I can't get into the system remotely. So, I don't need much and Rackspace's prices are therefore not easily justified. However, they also have a great network too, but I've seen a lot of others that have great networks for no more money than them. If you can justify the costs to yourself and it's worth it, it's probably a good choice.

I don't know anything about the other provider, but I do know about webreseller. They are a different league than Rackspace. It's not redundant or as quality lines they use at Rackspace, but it's pretty good for the line(s) they have (Yipes), and I guess they are getting more at some point (soon?). Personally, I've been happy with them, because I was able to tell them how I wanted the server partitioned (which is important, since depending on the partition scheme, you can't change it later usually).

At web reseller, I got a nice system set up with good hardware options for a good price. The bandwidth and speed have been great from every point I tested it and I usually get about 4 to 5 mpbs download even. Upload is similar. Rarely, other than the move previously, have I noticed any issues with their network, speed issues or anything bad. For the price, the hardware and bandwidth and the fact that I can actually have someone log in and tell them what commands to type (I don't care if they even know what they are doing, they can type what I tell them, I'm happy), and that's all I need (just in case something really bad happens). So, while that solution might not be for everyone, it's the next best thing to a provider like Rackspace and you are able to give clients a lot more with their hosting packages, not oversell and make a little more profit at the same time. If they don't work out for whatever reason, I'll probably have upgraded to a more expensive provider once I get enough clients to justify the costs.

My experience with Webreseller.net has been great. Customer service has been fairly responsive. They get the job done, and usually fairly quickly.

I've had no need to ask them for anything to date, but I can say that at least they were willing to set up the drives exactly how I asked them to so I could finish it and customize the partitions. Not a big deal, but someone like Rackshack would never touch it. I'm sure Rackspace (note SPACE, not SHACK) would do the same too, but webreseller provides everything I want/need, or anyone else could. However, it's true the connections aren't as great, I get all the support I want/need from WR though, so it's only a matter of the connection.

Gotta say webreseller as well. Real nice guys and the tech support is great. Whenever we need a custom setup they configure it however we ask. Good guys, good service.

It's been my experience as a customer that Webreseller's tech support is outstanding. I've opened tickets at 2am on a Sunday and gotten a response inside of ten minutes. Their machines are of high quality, and uptime over the last five months has been very good.

I'd also recommend Webreseller - been with them for several months. Good tech support (not always fast but they're always there for you), great network speed, and great pricing.

However, if you're going to host a mission critical site and you have the budget, Rackspace is the best choice. Their managed servers are simply top notch.

Everything I've heard about Datapipe is from second hand feedback on the web, which all seem to be positive as well. With Rackspace, it's first hand experience, plus know quite a few people who use them as well.

Rackspace or Datapipe in that order, IMO.

I would recommend webreseller. Their network has been consistantly fast and reliable. Their support has been ok thus far, not the quickest i have seen, but also not the worst, right in the middle.

For the price and the quality i think it out-weighs the cost of rackspace.

I think that you can't go wrong with WR or Rackspace. As it has been stated before, there is a very big difference in price. Having said that, webreseller is a fantastic provider. They more or less keep their clients informed about upcoming upgrades, outages, etc... Their network is very consitent with great pings and traces from around the US and abroad.

We have a server with webreseller and all has been good with that, as previous comments, support when needed has been good. Called them at the weekend for a server reboot, spoke to a tech, he went away, rebooted, checked everything was ok then came back to me on the phone with helpfull information.

Thumbs up from here. :D
