What are the chances of finding one thats droped? Tippy 09-08-2002, 12:18 PM I think grabbing a .com three letter domain would be just about impossible. Any 3 letter combo .com has value 100+. Most resellers will use one of the snap-back services to grab it while it drops. Even 3 letter .nets and .orgs are hard to catch. Mike nameslave 09-08-2002, 12:27 PM Agree; unless you buy from resellers Or you could go for .biz/.info or .us where you may find some luck. But why would someone want just any 3-letter domain name if it is not associated with his or her business or project? For example, ont.org means nothing if you are not from Ontario (Canada). DotComster 09-08-2002, 08:15 PM I used to get them for $12 bucks - now cost me $7. Not English - that language be too crowded. support 09-09-2002, 06:49 AM DotComster I dont get it, what do you mean by not english? complx.net 09-09-2002, 10:05 AM i've seen a few dropped ones lately but theyre things like w4x.whatever names that are rarely of use ;) i just recently registered an open 4 letter for a customer, and was actually suprised to even find that :) TheWatcher2 09-09-2002, 10:05 AM Originally posted by DotComster I used to get them for $12 bucks - now cost me $7. Not English - that language be too crowded. DotComster, $7 for what domain ext? DotComster 09-13-2002, 02:09 PM A agree - the easiest and cheepest is from domain resellers, some good values are offered here to. http://www.deleteddomains.com (newest deletions) has a daily list. But search deeper and you'll see that might drop in a few weeks/months. Those you can risk $79 for at SnapNames, but most already have a snap on them. The $7 - I ment is for available 3 leter dot coms - but I have a few numbers in my "limited volcabulary" ;) >> I dont get it, what do you mean by not english? Some languages use numbers as letters - It' called Lingo-Phonetic by it's French inventors, when they had to find extra letters to represent and catagorize all the languages of the World. support 09-13-2002, 03:14 PM I guess I better start looking for some in Ebay I really want one. something with commonly use letters. Acroplex 09-13-2002, 04:09 PM Pure 3-letter .COM domains in the wild are ultra rare; most are snapped up anyway. I've sold one and only have 1 left. Their value can easily reach above $1,000. 3-char .COM domains are more common but some rules are more rare: e.g. domains that have 2 consecutive letters and 1 number are typically worth more than those that are letter-number-letter and so on and so forth. In the latter category (3-char .COM domains) I have sold over 140 on ebay or via direct sales. m0h 09-14-2002, 06:14 PM :) I have www.m0h.net Chicken 09-14-2002, 06:19 PM How much would you think a 3-letter .com would go for (from a resller of domains, not something posted on ebay, or snapped, etc.) In other words, if you were going to buy a 3-letter .com from someone who sells domains regularly, what price would you think is reasonable? Acroplex 09-14-2002, 06:22 PM I can only speak as a seller :D If you are asking for the max price, how much would ABC.com go for? Probably millions. A private party contacted me for HXT.com and offered $400 outright. My minimum asking price is $2,500 As long as I keep it I only pay $7.50 /year The current market conditions indicate this holding sentiment. pgrote 09-14-2002, 06:33 PM You can find lots of three letter .COMs, but they are practically useless. See the above post ;) What would you do with a three letter domain name that didn't make sense? Acroplex 09-14-2002, 06:35 PM I really need to put this in an FAQ for all you aspiring domain brokers out there :D pgrote, I've sold more than 140 3-char .COM domains (and 1 3-letter .COM) this year. If you think these people had no use for these domains, I can send you a few URLs. pgrote 09-14-2002, 10:50 PM I would love to see how people put them to use. Send it on. Acroplex 09-14-2002, 11:03 PM small sample: http://www.ES6.com http://www.V78.com http://www.AM5.com http://www.AZ5.com Want an obvious use? nameservers. Instead of NS1.LongAssDNSserver.com you can use NS1.XX9.net Simple. pgrote 09-14-2002, 11:25 PM 1) An abberviation on the site. Cool. 2) URL redirect. Hmmm. A good choice. 3) Copy your favorite website? Don't get it. V78? 4) Coming Soon. Interesting. I liked the first two ideas as they worked. The last two were off the mark. I guess the market value is in the eye of the beholder. :D Acroplex 09-14-2002, 11:29 PM But I just grabbed a few from my list. I am not going to spend 1 hour picking out the best just to prove my point. As I said, I've sold more than 140 3-char domains this year. Their prices vary. Some sell cheap on eBay, others sell for $150+ directly. The secret is volume and I park with a content page every domain I register. My hot 3-char: H8S.com more than 3000 visitors in 2 months. I've turned down a $250 offer for this one. pgrote 09-14-2002, 11:39 PM Originally posted by timechange But I just grabbed a few from my list. It was eye opening for me. :-) Acroplex 09-14-2002, 11:41 PM :) I was not insinnuating that. The use of these domains as namservers is so simple that I am astonished by the fact that not many hosting companies use such domains for their reseller's "hidden" DNS. interactive 09-15-2002, 12:00 AM i was like jumping up and down when i found a 4 letter .com i found naother that i probly get later tonight... Acroplex 09-15-2002, 12:02 AM These are not rare at all. http://deleteddomains.com/cgi-bin/dellist.pl?cid=34648-17250&dz=0&exh=1&dt=4 Chicken 09-15-2002, 12:52 AM Originally posted by timechange I can only speak as a seller :D If you are asking for the max price, how much would ABC.com go for? Heh, yeah, I wasn't talking about ABC.COM, more like HXT or something equally jhdgjhdfg-ish :D apollo 09-15-2002, 08:42 AM if the name has x, w,y - usually you will get less (but depends..) |
