A month ago I had asked on this forum regarding shaghost.com. Not many people knew about it, but I went ahead and signed up anyways.

One of the features based on which I had decided was SSH access -- this was mentioned in the features page of their website. However, after signing up, they tell me that SSH access is granted only on a case-by-case basis. Since I wanted it purely for experimental purposes, they refused to grant me access to the same, and offered me a refund instead.

I took about a week to check for a new suitable provider, and after that asked them for a refund. It has been about two weeks since then, but I have received no refund from them. Since this is a forum where people generally check for initial opinions, I thought I might as well mention this fact here. Some new user searching for an opinion on shaghost might find this useful.

I have written 2-3 mails to shaghost regarding this matter. Since they too read this forum, I hope I will get my refund atleast now.

I made some inquiries (with the intent of signing-up) with ShagHost several days back and they responded to my e-mails very quickly on 2-3 instances, if I'm not mistaken. (Although I wanted to sign-up with them, my country is not yet on the list of Paypal, hence I failed to do so.)

It sure is sad to hear cases like that where hosts are not as responsive to requests for refund e-mails in the same way they are aggressive in replying to pre-sales inquiries. I'm rather new to this forum and I noticed that this seems to be a common problem with some hosting companies. :(

Sadly, You probally won't get your money back...And this post will turn into a whining post.

speaking of which....i haven't seen shaghost on the forums for a while?? maybe school? maybe family emergency? maybe ran out of money?

This post wasnt meant to be a "I didn't get my refund, so I am complaining ..." kind. I figured that the forum is one place where most people check for an initial opinion, and so decided to post my impressions here ...

I am not expecting much of a refund (although I really really wish I would get it :D), bit I want to ensure that no one else has the same experience as me.

Shaghost had some really good customer service. When I signed up, I would get replies to all my mails within a matter of minutes. But once I said I want a refund, I have stopped getting any replies. I just want to make sure nobody else goes through the same thing. :)

(On the other hand, if it was some serious problem that they had, and they do give me a refund soon, I would mention it here, coz I dont want to unnecessarily give them a bad name. :))

Eeks! They were around for exactly a month. I checked up on WHOIS -- their domain too was registered on exactly the same day -- 07-30-2002 -- https://www.gandi.net/whois?l=EN&domain=shaghost.com

You should have just told them you needed it for Pine ;) :D


Seriously though, it's understandable why they would only offer SSH to those who are comfortable with it. A lot can go wrong.

All I get is a blank white page. :eek:
