View Full Version : did godaddy tweak my domain data?

I make sure that the auto-renew option is turned off for all my domains, but lately I discovered 3 of them were turned on again.

godaddy charged me $11 domain renewal for one of them today!!

they claim it to be legal. But I have never auto-renew any of my domains with them. I always turn the option off! and number 2, I have never agreed for them to store my credit card info so that they can reuse it anytime they like. (whenever I get a domain, in payment page, I always select do not store my credit card data on file)
That's like giving them a blank check!

what should I do? I don't even want that domain anymore. And I don't feel like paying for something I never agreed to and never even autorized them to misuse my credit card info like that-they shouldn't even store the credit card data for later misuse!

I hate dishonest companies, godaddy used to be cheapest, and I had lots of domains previously, now I think I'm cutting back. but I don't find much good domain firms yet.

you might want to read their terms and conditions.. im sure it allows them to do this and its mentioned in their T&C.. its unfortunate, but again I dont htink you will be able to do much about it..

Try phoning them. I've read of cases where they actually undid the unwanted autorenew and refunded.

I just don't think you can anyhow go around charging people's credit card data when you're not authorized by the owner to store the data for re-use.

And furthermore, they tweak people's domain on random so it'll go to auto-renew, and they can charge anything they like.

at first godaddy seems sleezy enough with it trying to sneak extra prices here and there, but prices are good and service seems okay, but now godaddy has go-out-of-line, by tweaking people's data and misusing people's credit card.

It sounds like you just want to whine and get revenge, instead of calling/emailing them and maybe getting it resolved.

Why must all you be so childish all the time?

The world isn't perfect, neither are you. Did it ever occur to you that you may have forgotten or missed the auto renew option for that one domain?
Furthermore, if it's GoDaddy's fault, as you say, what do you think they do?
Click a "Random Customer Auto Renew On" button? Or do they maybe run a script to turn on autorenew for several customers? Maybe they just browsed YOU and thought HEY lets turn on auto renew for this guy BAHAHA 11 BUCKS EAAASY MONEY! Maybe it was some sort of bug or mistake?

Jesus H Christ guys, after reading so many threads here on WHT of people complaining and whining and never backing it up or thinking rationally about it I'm starting to get fed up with all the stupidity.
