Hi friends,
I have a subjective question about marketing.
I have a well positioned hosting website which receive more visits each day. Most of them are new visitors looking for a hosting company, although I don't sell hosting.
I would like to start reselling hosting and I have a doubt.

Which amount of new users in a website do you think is the recommended to start selling hosting?

I know is a subjective question because it depend on many variables, and I am not questioning about quality, service, etc.. just marketing.

Best regards.

Hello Victor,

Have you considered joining an affiliate program? Instead of hosting clients yourself, consider referring them onto another hosting company. You might be able to garner a sizable profit for doing so. :)

Affiliate programs might be great, as i've seen multiple sites basically doing reviews, and having links to the companies via an affiliate link.

However, keep in mind that the ratio for visitors to commit ratio is rather low.

Consider about 1 in 50 visits *might* get you a sale.

Returning visitors, that drops to about 1:15

Re-Returning visitors, it drops to about 1:5.

The more they revisit your site, the more interested they are.

You can pick up a reasonable reseller account for cheap. But I think if you want a pure hands off solution, get some affiliate accounts. As running a 'successful' webhosting company is no walk in the park.

Affiliate program is a good way to profit from selling hosting services, because you don't need to deal with customers. But you still need to attract traffic and this is something that you need to find how to do. It depends of the website and its business. You'll need to create content that is useful for web surfers and for those that search for web hosting services and products.

Hi and thanks for your answers,
I have been running an affiliate campaign during the last two years and I am happy with it, but I wanted to know if it could be more profitable running my own hosting company.

As long as you're willing to put in substantial initial time and effort and preferably money too, I'd say you would be fine. You seem committed enough considering your web hosting related site and affiliate programs have been running for that long.

Just remember to read up on the tutorials here to help you get started and guide you. You don't want to end up like most wannabe hosts; differentiating features, appealing design, good copy, dedication, quality service and support are just some of the aspects you will need to get a good start and succeed.
