I need to renew the SSL for my website. I looked at going for an EV this time as I think it will really help with sales. Has anyone got any experience of this?

I've shopped around and I now think GlobalSign's EV is the best for me, but all EV SSL are much more expensive than ordinary SSL - is it because there is more work to do or something as I understand they need to check the company details?

While researching this, I see there are resellers everywhere selling at different prices. Can anyone tell me where is best to buy it from? I want to be able to get support if needed and the cheapest price.

99% of your customers aren't going to care what type of certificate you have. Hell, half of them probably won't care that you're using SSL at all. Get a $14.95 rapidssl cert from The Planet and be done with it.

All SSL certs are essentially the same so the difference is price and support. You can purchase through your own affiliate link and get a discount (via commission). Just make sure you are buying from a company that has been in business for over 10 years to insure they will be there.

I agree, customers aren't going to care what kind of SSL you have, as long as you have one. It doesn't have to be a Verisign. All the EV does it make the address bar glow green really. You could get a RapidSSL (GeoTrust) for around $12 to 15.

All the best,

Hi,

EV will be more beneficial once the consumers become savvy to it but until then it just turns a bit green........

Get a RapidSSL from Namecheap, it's probably the best and the cheapest one.

Hello,

I would highly recommend Thawte, there customer support is outstanding, they are not a pain when it comes to reissuing and you get a seal to display on your website that will boost client trust that little bit more.

I use thawte SSL 123 certificate, I get it from a reseller for a lot less that their website list price. They do unlimited reissues and its pretty straight forward to install. I say that because some certificates are chained and you need to install the CA root certificate and then your certificate its just a hassle.

And to be honest, I have yet to see one customer come to my site and say "Hey, you are not using an EV SSL, you are just using a domain validated SSL, so I wont buy your services." When THAT day comes then I will get one, but I doubt I'll ever will otherwise. I see EV SSL mostly on these huge corporation websites such as Bank of America, PayPal, eBay among others. For them, $2000 or even $3000 per EV SSL is a drop, no, molecule in a bucket.
