I have had an active ModernBill 4.x installation for years. I planned to let it run since it was doing its job

Now, the license has expired although all of my invoices are up to date:

[Error 2-22] This license failed to auto-renew and has expired. Please click here to auto-renew your license now.

Clicking "click here" doesn't help

Logging in to their billing/admin system at https://billing.modernbill.com/ doesn't give me any tools to fix this. Clicking "Regenerate V4 License" doesn't fix it.

The old ModernBill forum has been archived so people can't discuss problems like this and how to fix them.

The Plesk Knowledgebase has an article telling me to go to a link that gives a 404 error: http://www.modernsupport.com/modernbill/

I tried to enter comments on at the bottom of the KB article but it kept saying I entered the captcha wrong, although I tried 6 times.

Submitting a support ticket requires a support contract or paid support incident. Why would I pay for support just to use a product I'm already paying for?

Somewhere on the Modernbill / Plesk Billing website is a phone number you can call for license issues. No one answers it, and it just goes to a voice mailbox with the default Asterisk greeting.

Working with Parallels is such a frustrating experience.

Parallels is a serious company has been around for years I'm sure you know that. Surely this is temporary problem since hardware does fail but still doesn't explain why they didn't notify their customers about it in that case.

Yeah, support seems... iffy. Although, ModernBill pretty much "just works" and is pretty much the standard billing system for hosting companies.

Maybe 2-3 years ago, yes. Recently MB has been more hassle than it's worth.

My best advice is to give them a call, they are generally helpful on the phone based on what I've read in the forums.

Try consider moving to another billing system. Some people say since parallels took over modernbill, things have gotten worse!

My best advice is switch to WHMCS, It surely must be the most popular system nowadays.

Popular? WHT forums do not represent anywhere close to the number of web hosting companies out there. There are many many people using many different billing systems.

I do agree that WHMCS has many supporters on these forums though. Personally, I think there are better alternatives, but it really depends on what the hosting company needs. There's lots of threads about the pros/cons for different billing systems, so a good search will help, if the poster is looking for opinions on alternatives.

There are many billing systems, which have advantages over the other, but there are disadvantages too.

But there are very few or one of them which suits one's situation, and requirements. We call it as "best" billing system becuase we use it.

Although I agree with the part. Modernbill has gotten worse than it was every before. The parent company, Parallels, gives free sales, but they want you to pay for every second of support incident.

I agree. Since Parallels have taken over, seems things have gone slightly down hill. Enough to make me try out WHMCS which is awesome.

I've never really been a fan of Modernbill. I prefer WHMCS.
