I'd like to monitor my multiple cpanel and ensim servers. I know I can use alertra.com but is there a version I can purchase outright or perhaps and opensource version?

I found this one http://alstrasoft.com/site_uptime.htm

Also, is there a nice desktop solution I can install to Windows XP to monitor remote server ports?

I'd like to know what my options are as far as desktop and web-based monitoring software.

Any suggestions?

You should check on this forums about alstrasoft.com (http://alstrasoft.com) very bad support I hear :)

You could take a look at HyperSpin (http://www.hyperspin.com/en/)

I'm sure you are already aware of Nagios. It remains the most flexible out there.

How does Nagios works? You install it on your server?

Nagios is an opsn-source monitoring package that you install on your own server and then configure to monitor one or more servers. It's fairly flexible, with lots of plugins to monitor different applications as well as several different web frontends. Check out http://www.nagios.org or search on Freshmeat for more details.

Nagios is real good. We use to monitor our servers as well

We've been using Panopta for a few weeks now. Well worth the price

Use Wormly health monitoring or Nagios. Wormly will allow you remotely monitor at a price, but Nagios is open source and on site health monitor. Both are quite good.

I found http://www.tembria.com/ and it seems to work pretty good and easy to setup.

It just installs to a Windows workstation or server.

Never heard of it - but it looks nice, and not overly complecated to use :)

does tembria require you to keep your windows workstation cpu online 24/7?

We use siteuptime.com which I find works really well, it is also pretty cost effective as well.
