No subdomain.
This is real domain.
This is *.gen.tr" extension
What is gen.tr? Something from Turkey, right? It is similar to co.uk?
astraler2k 09-07-2002, 09:10 AM Yes, from Turkey.
friedmanlo 09-07-2002, 09:10 AM This is a sub-domain......it worths NOTHING......this is a .tr extension
astraler2k 09-07-2002, 09:11 AM No subdomain,
This is Turkey domain extension.
friedmanlo 09-07-2002, 09:16 AM but it can be "xx.tr" rather than "gen.tr".........
you mean $350 US dollars...or in turkish currency?
astraler2k 09-07-2002, 09:18 AM Not xx.tr for Turkey extensions.
Turkey extensions are *.com.tr , *.net.tr , *org.tr etc.
friedmanlo 09-07-2002, 09:24 AM i think you can sell it if the set price is US$0.35

aliko 09-07-2002, 11:10 AM Hi,
For your informations :
Actually gen.tr not a sub domain. It is same like com.tr, org.tr, net.tr etc.
All generic names and foreign words must be registered as a gen.tr. As long as they are not a trade mark or something like that.

aliko
Acroplex 09-07-2002, 11:11 AM Yeah it's a nice way for the turkish government to make some quick cash from registrations.
aliko 09-07-2002, 11:18 AM Very well possible ;) .
A few years ago there was big fight for the generic names and at the end, result ---> gen.tr .
Because domain registeration system in Turkey very strength.
If you are not a registered company and can not proof with official papers you can not register a domain name com.tr, same system for the org.tr or net.tr, edu.tr, gov.tr .
Acroplex 09-07-2002, 11:20 AM Such bull...they should allow domain.tr
Japan snapped out of their sleep and co.jp is not necessary anymore. ou can register domain.jp

gen.tr is a ccTLD. The webhosting part might be very attractive to someone in Turkey. The same as webhosting.com.au would be an attractive Australian domain. I think hosting.com.au recently went for >$2000. Nobody will ever get webhosting.au so the ccTLD is our "domain" so to speak.
Cheers
Gary
Acroplex 09-07-2002, 11:57 AM The big joke is the use of second level domains in the first place. In Greece they used to have com.gr, net.gr and org.gr with the same stupid strict restrictions. Noone was buying any, until they dropped the 2nd level doman and allowed simply .gr
AussieHosts 09-07-2002, 12:27 PM I think that if market perception is not affected then it's fine. It's expected to have a .com.au domain down here in a lot of cases. Other countries obviously differ.
Cheers
Gary
Acroplex 09-07-2002, 12:28 PM That's because you Aussies put up with it :D
AussieHosts 09-07-2002, 12:32 PM True. It would be harder now to change though. Folks just want to hear something.com.au.
Gary
Acroplex 09-07-2002, 12:34 PM REVOLUTION!
:D
AntiSpamHosts 09-07-2002, 12:37 PM I think Bush should force us to use domain.co.us ... Do you imagine how awful that would be?
