Should I pay $299 directly to Yahoo to get my site submitted, or is there a service which does this for me and is better at it?

There is no company in the world that can guarantee a placement on Yahoo, as there is a special algorithm that Yahoo uses to rank sites. Anyone else who tells you otherwise is just trying to take your money. The best way is to make sure that you don't have any broken links/images and that your site looks professional and you should be accepted.

I took me about 3 months to get on yahoo without paying. Just make sure you follow their rules and you'll be acepted eventually.

I wouldn't suggest paying unless you are that impatient. Once you sign up for the pay service, it's a recurring fee.

Depending on which category you choose, you may have to pay. And when it's web hosting you have to - unless you choose a regional category. insiderhosting is right, you can't get a guaranteed placement with any company - Yahoo is in no partnership with anyone for that.

www.SelfPromotion.com - he wrote the "white page" on how to get listed on Yahoo. BUT Yahoo is so very over rated.

I've heard that Yahoo doesn't guarantee placement even with that $299 fee and that the fee is lost even if you aren't accepted. Is that true?

That's what Yahoo says - YES, and if you submit a porn site to a church category, I'm sure they will take your $299 and tell you to take a hike. (actually I think it costs like $600 to submit a porn site.)

Anyway - if you submit your site wisely to a proper category then it's unlikely that you will get screwed out of your money. If Yahoo had a habit of doing this I think we'd all hear more about it.

In addition, I actually have had Yahoo deny my $299 listing before in which case they sent me an email which allowed me I believe 7 days to reselect my categry and resubmit.

That $299 is $299 per year, so trust me, Yahoo would rather get you listed than send you away!

Good luck.

Yes it does take $600 to submit adult related sites. As with $299 per year, I think that applies only to commercial sites.

If I were you, I would use the free submit system, and then take the $299.00 that you would have spent on the listing and deposit it into a Google AdWords account. You can buy more clicks that way then your Yahoo listing is likely to pull in every year.

The free submit is only for non-commercial listings - a web hosting site will need to pay the $299 / year.

I think Yahoo's standards have dropped quite a bit - so long as your site loads properly & looks professional you will likely be accepted. If they reject you you can appeal.

The will use your company name as the title - the title is the biggest impact on ranking i.e - the keywords need to be in the title.

Your site was not in your profile - if you PM me your URL & what type of keywords you want to get found from I can tell you if you have any chance of getting traffic from Yahoo

AOL users are the kind that will e-mail you all day long and ask for support. Or (my favorite) the guy that kept e-mailing me saying he COULDNT place his order with his credit card because the "coupon code" box wasnt filled out. I tried to explain that was an optional field... I should have saved my breath...

A guarantee to get your site into Yahoo doesn't mean that it will absolutely, with certainty, be there... any more than a "99.9% uptime" guarantee means that your site will be up that amount of time.

In both cases they mean that if the company offering the guarantee isn't able to provide the specified service, they'll refund your money.

So, to answer the question in the original post, there certainly are seo firms that offer guaranteed Yahoo placement. Trust me, I know.

Anyway, to clarify a couple of other misconceptions in this thread: there is no longer a free submission route to submission to Yahoo in "commercial" categories. When people say things like "my site's been in Yahoo for years and I never paid a thing" they are making a distinction: it used to be that you could submit for free and wait, or pay a one-time fee of $199 for "Express Submit" and a quick review. It's no longer the case, Express Submit is the only option for commercial categories and the current fee is $299 per year.

There are a couple of possible "back door" approaches that might get a site listed in the Yahoo directory without paying; but they do not involve making a submission at the Yahoo site.

Some people who say that they are "in Yahoo" are really in Google, and so are being listed under "web pages" on the Yahoo results pages. In general, though, that's not what people who say they want to "be in Yahoo" are talking about.

Is Yahoo "overrated?" What does that mean? If you get listed in a good category, and have good positioning in that category, depending on the business you're in you could very easily get an ROI from a Yahoo listing much better than that of any other advertising medium you're using. But if you're in a competitive category, your listing is poorly written, and your position has you buried... yep, you're throwing away $299.

If you pay Yahoo and your site corresponds to the conditions set,,there is no reason why it would not be accepted. It should be accepted in 99% of the cases as many few cases are rejected. Even if it is rejected for some odd reasons, they give another chance...

Now for the placement,,,well you can consult a search engine expert on it who has experience in placing websites in top search results. He may charge you a fee for optimum listings at yahoo.
