hi, im a college student that just got visual studio 2008. i want to build a few webpages with this (asp.net) and was curious what kind of hosting i needed? i was told i needed a dedicated server, and when i checked the prices on that, it was expensive

does anyone have any recommendations for me? thanks!

You don't need a dedicated server for a few .NET pages. Simply take a look in the shared hosting offers forum and search for ".NET Hosting", it should turn up a fair few results.

Exactly. A dedicated server will be killing for you. A shared hosting plan should just suffice your needs and you can get one at around $5 / mon. Shared Hosting offers section Here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4) will be of help to you in your search.

Good luck!

If you want to give me a PM for some remarks on my experience, but flytheweb.com is a very customer-service oriented company and is windows hosting.

Use a shared windows server 2008 webhost.

You could also try a windows server 2003 shared hosting plan but 2008 has better security features now if available.
