I've always heard things about some hosts which have "RVSkin", after looking into it I don't see what the fuss is about.

What are the pros about getting it? Why do customers like hosts which support it?

Thanks for your input.

Because it support 23 languages. Also using of it more easy than cpanel themes and looks nice. But works slower.

we added it to a number of our cpanel servers as a "pretty" set of skins for reselers to differentiate their control panels by colour, style etc

since the improvements to x3 most people have switched to that, so we wont be renewing barring a couple of boxes.

We use it because of these features:

- Excellent feature manager. You can create feature sets per package, or per account. Much better then the built-in whm feature manager.

- Upsell system. If some of your packages don't include mysql database (for example), then you can still leave the link in the cpanel, but have it go to an "upsell" page where customer can read about the feature, and place an order, etc.

- You can precisely control what appears on the page, including links to status monitor, version info, etc.

- Much easier (then x3) for resellers to brand with their own identity.

- Control what webmail options you want.

- Cpanel user can create "sub-users", which have access to only specified areas of the cpanel.

You can find a comparison of cpanel deafult "x3" and rvskin here:

http://www.rvskin.com/index.php?page=public/comparison

For what it costs, I think rvskin is pretty good value.

Our experience is that almost all users like it, somehow all users with a technical background dislike it; the complain i hear the most from this group is; I don't like the colors / icons or something very similar to this.

Personally I do like RVskin very much, they are on top of things and update very regular.

As for the small group who dislike the skin; they just get default X3 Skin... if that makes them happy; why not :)

I've previously looked into paying for RVSkin, and from what I have seen and can see, customers of a number of companies like it.

When I used to use Shared Hosting, I never was a fan of the RVSkin look and feel. However, as previously mentioned, it is ideal for resellers wanting to put their identities on their client's panels.

I currently like cPanel 11's primary theme - the ability to drag key links around on the main page is particularly useful.

cPanel and RVskin both have very good demos on their sites, so take a look at them and make a comparison. However, if you want to be able to easily customise the UI, I'd go with RVSkin any day!

The only good thing in my opinion is the themes. I got it for the subversion addon - didnt work at all when I tried it. Contacted support they blamed me - finally did manual subversion install happy as ever.

If you have issues I think your on your own.

Yeah the subversion module has been a real hit or miss. I was going back and forth with them on it for a month. I think most of the bugs are fixed now after I tested it on various configurations and then they resolved the issues. I also have a bit more knowledge than most people trying this add-on so I was able to provide actual fixes to a lot of the bugs. Or at least pin point the exact cause.

I've noticed that RVSkin is primarily in use by our international clients who want the theme in their native language, and maybe this is due to the fact that RVSkin had decent translations before cPanel or maybe it's that the cPanel translations are not up to par with RVSkin?

For resellers, I would say RVSkin is worth it due to the upselling ability, but for standard shared hosting accounts I don't see many pro's or con's when compared to the default cPanel x3 theme. I guess it just comes down to what the client likes to look at, as the functionality is pretty much the same between RVSkin and x3.

Main plus point for RVSkin is multiple languages. Otherwise IMHO whilst it works great, it can be very confusing for customers.

I find RVSkin worth it too.

It looks better and makes it bit easier to navigate. (menu on left side of every page).

And being a host it shows you dont mind spening a few bucks to provide your clients with the best.

If a client doesnt like RVSkin, you can switch his skin to X anyways.

RV people provides a good support too btw.
