View Full Version : do we need /want an RIP forum - thread ?

As others have mentioned, we keep seeing individual 'rip' threads for our heroes.

I don't keep count, but there certainly have been quite a few this year,
showbiz, sports & leaders, all get a little mention here on WHT.

as the title says:
Do we want or need a forum or dedicated thread for our lost heroes ?

I personally don't see a dedicated RIP board as being really necessary or justifiable.

Agreed
Shouldn't this be in the 'feedback' section anyways, where it'd be more appropriate?

I agree there have been a number of deaths this year of public figures, but that specific forum, I don't really think we need.

Like any other topic, if someone thinks it is worthwhile discussing they'll probably create a thread and people will reply if they share the same sentiments. I wouldn't like to see a seperate forum, as I don't think that enough threads of this type are posted to warrant one, and certainly not a single thread (this would stifle discussion, if one was to be had).

I don't think a RIP forum would be appropriate for WHT. I don't think we have that many RIP's for those in the hosting industry yet(or for those outside the industry either) and IMO there's no need to have a separate forum just for the purpose of "obituaries".

We have enough with the "dead" hosts!

I read the title and thought you were asking about site rippers :S. I need to get out more. Or less. I forget which.

It's a good idea for a mega-forum dedicated to things like celebrities, but I don't see a reason to have it here.

I agree. WHT is more about hosting, servers etc. i think a RIP forum may depress the whole environment.

I stareted this thread in the lounge, as others had raised the question within a couple of previous RIP type threads.

Personaly I think it only needs a thread, rather than a forum, but I do think that thread should be in the lounge, which is where most RIP threads start.

So I would suggest a 'RIP for all' thread [better title needed though],
or leave it as it is with an 'as required', RIP, mr/mrs xyz thread.

It is good that some like to chillout in the lounge & reflect on 'non hosting' events.

From a moderation perspective that would be a difficult task.

There are generally two types of RIP threads posted. One, where the person dies and was generally well regarded by others. Those types of threads have condolences and are civil. Two, where the person lived a controversial life. Those threads spawn debates within the thread, and might end up with the thread being closed.

Now imagine combining those two types into one massive thread, and think about how much cleaning we'd have to do to keep the good part of the threads separate from the arguments. In the end I think keeping things as-is would be better suited to this forum.

I feel a 'World News and Events' section is more required where the members can post the news, reports and articles from the media.

That might be a bit better off, maybe another subforum of the lounge?

Indeed! There may be some missing information or news, which can be known through others.

Yeah a subforum like the Social Issues and an update on the rules.... Rule #1 Rant in Peace :D

otherwise it could become another 'flame zone'.

I'm prob. wrong, but I would see it as:
Lounge = mainly trivia
SI = intense debates
WN&E = serious but not 'heavy', sort of Whats happening in the world, as opposed to Why !
To be managable though could be a challenge !

i think they should be placed in social issues. cause I think there exactually that "an issue thats social and might effect everyone".

the longe is where i go to relax and catch up on geeky things that people bring to the forum.

not see threads of death and sadness that depress me even further. at least if you go into the social issues ur going to kinda expect to see it.

Social issues is more of a political forum, where you can literally expect arguments to happen because X hates dems , X hates reps, X hates libs, etc... It's not really the place for that type of discussion.

all of the above tie into my theory of "social issues" and are not all that politic realated (above are located already in social issues)

so I dont agree with what you said, however yes I do semi agree as there are threads in there (80% +) that are politic realted.

I think more or less all issues are somehow related to other and the topic entirely diverts up. I hope we have played enough with those. :D:stickout:

no..no..no...please no RIP forum

it would be so morbid.

i.e...let's browse the RIP forum to see who's croaked lately or is next in the queue to start pushing up the daises.

Soon we'll start taking bets against who's gonna be the next addition or even a sticky thread "wishlist" :)

SI has more topics already in queue to cause flame, adding one or two is not going to make big impact.

I think, lounge is better for other general news / stuffs and SI for as usual.:stickout:

An official one wouldn't really have much utility. I would suggest though there be one where members predict one going down soon or something like that.
