View Full Version : Domain Resellers on Reseller Accounts

I know from experience and from various posts not just in this forum that the best setup for anyone buying a web hosting account would be to get their domain from a third-party domain registrar so that if any problem occurs with your host (and you), you can flee to another quickly without your domain being held hostage.

Now, I'm curious: what are your thoughts on the free domain reseller account that some reseller hosts offer? I personally think that it's a good deal especially the one from Innohosting that (currently) provides $6.95 domains and ResellerZoom with $8.95 domains, with no minimum deposit required. But, would it be wise to get a domain reseller account that's tied in with your reseller hosting account?

If you are planning to provide web hosting and domain name registration services being reseller - just make your customers sure that they are protected and they will be domain name holders once they refuse use your web hosting services.

I agree, it depends who becomes the owner of the domain.

Personally, I would never register with anybody who does not give full control over the domain features or does not disclose where it is actually registered.

The Domain Reseller and Webhost Reseller accounts should be two totally seperate accounts. I may be wrong, but I also don't know if someone above you on the tier can just delete your domain reseller account as they please on most domain reseller providers.

I believe delete/modify sub reseller account cannot be done with Enom but maybe correct on Directi platform.

That's exactly my concern: what if anything wrong happens (to the company or to your relationship with the company), would I be assured that the domains I hold are still owned and can be controlled by me?

I think ResellerZoom uses Enom, and I believe Enom can take over in handling the subreseller account if anything happens to the main reseller account; correct me if I'm wrong, but the case of Registerfly. But Innohosting seems to be using another company to handle the domain reseller accounts they are giving away.

I agree with you. I would actually do the same thing. It's very simple for a host to actually take your domain hostage, so if I'm not provided with the power to take back my domain whenever I want, I would just pay for it rather than risk it being taken hostage and complicating things even more.

Its always a good thing to register your domains where you will get full DNS control, you can transfer it, and also you can change nameservers.

I think its best to ask the Hosting Provider about it before you even register.

These are two scenarios.

For End user
For Reseller

For end user it is always better to get domain directly from registrar or from some reputed domain reseller. Where ever you are going to book your domain first ensure what level of control you are going to get on your domain, can you change whois details, can you change name servers, can you get EPP code and how. Some registrars/resellers have all the above and more automated and with some few things like EPP code is to be requested using support.

For resellers, you can go directly with Enom, ResellerClub and many others or you can get a reseller account from a reputed reseller, difference is with registrar you may require to make some hefty deposits to get good rates, but from a reseller you may gate low rates without deposits.

I don't have much experience with Enom but since they are among the top registrars I think they give their end user and reseller full control.

But since I am with ResellerClub for quite a long time and as I am selling domains to end users and have resellers too, I know that with OrderBox/ResellerClub system you get full control over your domain every thing is automated. If it is of concern to any one, a reseller account that has been activated can't be deleted though it can be suspended, whereas a client account can be deleted. With ResellerClub system you can move domain from one account to another free of cost, so if you are not happy with your current provider you can move your domain to another reseller without your current reseller intervention. In worst scenario you can always contact DirectI the parent company to bail you out.

With ResellerClub you can test drive the entire system totally free of cost, they have live demo at
http://www.resellerclub.com/demo/ select what type of demo you want.

Specially for reseller account testing

Hope this will of help to you guys who are new in this field.

Innohosting uses two different resellers, but if you want the co.uk TLD as well as the other popular ones, they use NetEarth One and they are active on the forums here if you want to ask them directly.

However, in Innohosting's case I seriously doubt you'll have a problem with it anyway. I can tell you from experience that they are very professional and they seem to run a very stable infrastructure.

One of the reasons why I started this thread: I was hoping that anyone who is currently using such services can post here their feedback/experience with specific reseller hosts.

We provide the client a choice of 3 domain resellers to choose from:
- eNom (8.95 minimum prices)
- Resell.biz (part of UK2)
- NetEarthOne

Resell.biz and NetEarthOne pricing starts at $6.95.

The domain reseller is in the name of the client, the domains are all registered and managed by the client. As such, the customer always has full control over their domain names. I hope that clarifies how our domain reselling works :)

Thanks for the info Rameen!

I think that's fair enough. A question though: what happens if a client decides to close the reseller hosting account they have with you, how do you deal with it?

If a client decides to close their reseller account, then the domain reseller remains active, but they will no longer be able to add funds to the account. You would need to move the domains away. However, there is no time limit on moving away, so you can do it in your own time.

Rameen, It says NetEarthOne pricing starts at $6.95? How much is the .com registration?

How come 1and1.com offer $6.99 for most of the types to end users, where as even resellers cannot get that price?

.com/.net/./org/.co.uk are all currently $6.95

If you have any questions regarding 1and1, then you should be asking them. ;)

And if anyone has any specific InnoHosting questions, you should contact our Sales dept. so we can keep this thread on track :)
