Well we are going to get in to some of the cobalts for low end hosting with unix. But here are soem htings would like to find out.

What type of RAM do the RAQ's use?
Can the RAM be upgreade very easy? e.g Pop the top and drop 256mb in there or more.
What would be the max if you can drop new ram in there?
Can you upgrade the CPU if needed or is it all together?
On Hard Drives i know some RAQ's can with 20 gig drive or more can you upgrade these to say a 76 gig IBM drive and just reinstall the cobalt OS?

I have never opened one up yet so i am not sure what all is in it yet. LOL

Any help on this before we start buying them would be great.

Any one selling older cobalts any of them that are Rack and are stillw orking with now problems please send me a e-mail ( info@vortechhosting.com ) as we would be glad to buy a few older ones for some in house work.

Thanks

Hello,

I know the RaQ 4's use standard DIMM memory however it must be 1.5 inches or less tall and less than 4mm thick. There are two memory slots and I *think* the max is 512megs.

Im not 100% sure if you can upgrade the CPU, they do use AMD cpu's and if I remember AMD's socket style's cut off at 450 or 500.

On the RaQ 4i you can an extra drive however I do not think you can add a second on the 4r.

For more info I would refer to Cobalts website and download the manual for whichever RaQ you are considering, they usually contain info about upgrading and such.

Regards,

Mike

The 4r's have dual drives already (stock) so no, I don't think you can add a thrid drive. Second drive is for RAID-1.

Thanks for the replys Chicken and Phiberop.

I think the main thing i would want to do it upgrade it to 512mb of ram. Then CPU at 450 should be ok since it is Unix and not windows. I am just use to dual PIII with 4 gig's of ram on windows 2000 servers..LOL That why i was trying to find out about the ram side of RAQ as how easy it is to upgrade and how far it could go.

Now all i have to do is find some for sell at a good price..LOL

Any one with used RAQ's for please let me know. ;)

If you want host to contact you, you should turn on the email feature in your profile. I have one that will be for sale (once I get it shipped back to me), there were two in the Advertsing forum for sale recently, and you can often find them on ebay as well.
