Hey everybody, I have a question that I can't seem to find using searches. Basically I'd like to know people's opinion of having one domain/site with a variety of category specific topics versus having one domain name per specific category.
For example what's better:
kisame.com/books - focusing on books
kisame.com/blog - personal blog
kisame.com/funnyvideos - funny videos
or
blazingbookworld.com - focusing on books
kisame.com - personal blog
roflvids.com - funny videos
Initially I'm thinking of having a specific domain name for each category, just in case one becomes more visited than another. What are your thoughts?

If the sites are related to each other, then I would use one domain name, because I think you will get better search engine ranking for having lots of related content.
If the sites are not related, then this will work against you because you will have unrelated content on the same site... so in that case you should have a different domain name for each "category" of content.
Hope that helps.

I'm still a bit unsure. At this point my main site is 80% of my personal blog, and the rest are some review pieces I've written and some funny things across the Internet I've come across. I have other domain names that I don't use and I thought it might be better to siphon off other content to those names. Like instead of going to my main site and pressing the category for "funny video," I thought it might be better to just tell people to visit roflvids.com instead.
I agree with Mr Zippy. If there is a common theme, like, which books you like, your personal blog about books and videos, the videos you see as funny. Then it would be better to use 1 domain name. If there is no common theme (even tenuous) then it might be better to have 3 separate domains.

Thanks Mr.Zippy and Stub.
If you choose, I domain. Then be sure to use subfolders (not subdomains) for best seo results.

Sort of continuing this conversation, my main site is a wordpress blog, and I'm wondering using the categories idea, and instead of using a different domain. If I want to make a page devoted to funny videos online I find, is it better to just tag it with "funny video" and have people just search it with that tag or make another page called "funny videos" that archives it like a blog?
Can you post your blog's name so we can see for ourselves?

Put in your signature because you may change it later and no traces to your post.

Argh, I keep thinking my screen name logs to my site. It's at michaelmidnight.com and at this point it just a regular wordpress blog. I've been asking, so I could see what works better: everything all together or with category specific pages.
