I was trying to post this post in the Domain Name Appraisals forum but it did not let me post it there (not sure why?).

Anyway, beyoncefaq.com is going expired on me. Should I renew it or just let it lapse and let the spammers have it? Is it worth anything?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I understand, Beyonce is some kind of a popstar (sorry for my ignorance - I do not listen to music like this). If this is a case, I think it is VERY good domain for development.

I too would have thought you could develop this one quite well.

It wouldn't be difficult to get hold of a load of articles about Beyonce, and create a good website.

Just saw that you privacy protected this domain. Be careful with that as Beyonce's lawyers will send letters to anyone holding a dotCom domain with the word beyonce in it (they don't care about other extensions).
Namecheap / eNom may suspend the domain if they get the letter on your behalf.

If you can develop the domain without falling into any legal hassles, then go ahead. Else, just let it go!

Thank you everyone for the replies.

The legality of the whole thing didn't occur to me. I didn't now a person's name could be trademarked.

I don't have the time to develop it. I think I'm now a few days past when it expired but isn't there a grace period where I can still renew it?

I was just hoping to sell the domain name but I was not able to make a post in the domain name appraisals forum.

Ah, no, I have until the 17th.

You cannot trademark a person's name. Therefore whether their lawyers send a letter or not, it would not hold up. However you might have to spend some money with a lawyer of your own to work things out, should it come to that.

i think you'd be able to find someone who would develop it, maybe just pay the ~8$ to renew it then look for someone that would pay a bit more than that to buy it to keep it away from the spammers
