View Full Version : Phone numbers, affordable?
hostbox 09-09-2008, 06:37 PM Hi guys,
What companies offer Phone numbers for masking?
Lets say you want to have 1 single number that directs the call to your cell but you want to be able to change the number where you will be available at any time?
Are there any affordable, free or cheap services that will give you a phone number and let you do this?
Thanks
Lemon Sky Media 09-09-2008, 06:40 PM If you're in the United Kingdom, BT Ring Central does offer what you're looking for.
I believe the 0844 number is generally used for roaming.

Vonage (http://vonage.com) can do this as well.
teachforjune-Scott 09-09-2008, 09:43 PM kall8 does this starting at $2/mo plus per minute charge.
HVH-Ernie 09-09-2008, 10:34 PM We use vonage.. Works great.
easy4host 09-10-2008, 12:40 AM GotVMail.com is a close competitor of Ringcentral. Rich feature too
Tswaibel 09-10-2008, 01:39 AM kall8 does this starting at $2/mo plus per minute charge.
I second Kall8, they're very well priced and added a # of features over the years. Plenty of companies now-a-days to choose from thats for sure.
Orien 09-10-2008, 02:28 AM Kall8 works very well for us as well.
priyakochin 09-10-2008, 04:46 AM Kall8 works very well for us as well.
Are they available for Indians too ?
UH-Bobby 09-10-2008, 09:24 AM We use Ringcentral, the US version. It works great for us so far.
rcwebhost 09-11-2008, 12:10 AM We use GrandCentral.com not sure if it will work for you, but works great for us.

Kall8 works internationally.
We use GrandCentral.com not sure if it will work for you, but works great for us.
SeanSean - do you have an invite available? I would love to try this out..
teachforjune-Scott 09-11-2008, 10:16 AM They've blocked invites for a while. They're not accepting any new users and it's been like that since before april.
HostKitten 09-14-2008, 02:06 AM What about SkypeIn? Probably ever so suitable for a small company, and you can have a number in different countries.
wrightconsulting 09-14-2008, 02:44 AM We use GrandCentral.com not sure if it will work for you, but works great for us.
SeanWhat they said :D
Shaun [WhirlHost] 09-14-2008, 04:17 AM We use TollFreeForwarding (www.tollfreeforwarding.com) and they are fantastic and have an amazing control panel.
rcwebhost 09-16-2008, 05:54 PM Sean - do you have an invite available? I would love to try this out..
powerMonster-Scott is correct they don't give out invites right now sorry.
Sean
rustelekom 09-16-2008, 06:09 PM Try http://www.telcan.net/ Work very well. But do not use it for "hiding" your real number, instead use it as virtual PBX with call forwarding, voice mail and intellectual answering machine.
subigo 09-17-2008, 03:50 AM Another vote for GrandCentral... However, from what I hear they won't have invites opened again until next Spring.
SysAdminMan 09-17-2008, 03:11 PM You can do this with Callcentric (http://callcentric.com). You can even setup 'call treatments' via their website. This could be used, for example, to redirect calls differently out-of-hours.
Obviously, if you want to do something more complicated you could hook the number up to your own Asterisk server.
GixxerPC 09-18-2008, 08:29 PM SkypeIn is excellent.
I use skype in with virtual pbx, plus with the business control panel, you can assign numbers to your employees. If you fire them, the number is still yours to reassign to someone new.
techietype 09-19-2008, 09:00 PM DON'T USE KALL8. It is the most unreliable service on the planet. Vonage is okay for home phone service, but they're not too swift (to say the least) when it comes to businesses. I certainly wouldn't recommend them. RingCentral.com and GotVmail.com are the best two choices. If you actually need a voip phone line, you may want to consider a hosted ip pbx from Aptela, Vocalocity, or Jive communications (getjive.com - I currently use them and am very happy).
techietype 09-19-2008, 09:02 PM PS A tip - don't try to host your own asterisk box. You'll be sorry.....

I think they are planning on dumping the GrandCentral project. Heard that Google is losing to much money off it. You might want to check out RingCentral or Virtual PBX for a phone service. Live Chat also works, if you want to cut cost. :)
All the best,
businessincrease 09-22-2008, 05:59 PM SkypeIn is excellent.

My reception when using skype isn't that good most of the time.
whservices 09-22-2008, 09:08 PM I would suggest: Vitelity
http://vitelity.net/index.php?p=retailserv
You can get their Unlimited Inbound DIDs for $7.95/month - which will allow you up to 2 concurrent calls at a time. (If you are forwarding to a cell phone it won't handle more than that anyway.)
If you aren't forwarding to a cell phone, you can use their per minute pricing, and route it where you want.
power1 09-25-2008, 12:23 PM i suggest vonage as its cheap and works great
aingaran 09-25-2008, 01:50 PM PS A tip - don't try to host your own asterisk box. You'll be sorry.....
Mind sharing your experience?
Corey Bryant 09-28-2008, 04:50 PM Freedom Voice is another provider. A bit more expensive but well worth. In the time I worked with them (having their services), we added another toll free number and got a local fax number. The fax services were much better than efax - they delivered the fax to you in a PDF or TIF file.
They will also record your conversations as well - yes, they do tell you that you are being recorded. That helped me out a couple of times when I used them.
apt-get 09-28-2008, 07:23 PM Verizon calls it a "foreign listing" and it gets you in 411 which can be good business practice. The price, last time I checked, was less than $2 a month.
AT&T also offers something similar, calls it "remote call forwarding".
Ceetoe 09-29-2008, 08:45 AM Phone.com is another provider similar to Gotvmail and Ringcentral.
