This happened in 1999/2000.

I purchased a deal from anvdesign.net for five lifetime 50 meg websites. Life of the company. They had advertisements
for 1,000 of these specials when they were starting up.
I suppose this was a way to get cash for expansion and customers who might buy their other services. I had five sites on subdomains, like "abcde.anvdesign.net" . These were not domain name hosting , just simple advertising-free websites. And my usage was minimal.

Anvdesign was purchased by netwerx.com (Canada) , associated with quikserv.com (Houston). They posted notice that they would honor the arrangements that anvdesign
had made. But my login passwords no longer worked, and I received email notice that arrangements like
mine would *not* be honored. Others would, just not ones like mine. They insisted that my sites would be shut down if I didn't pay a monthly fee. I refused to pay, and they shut the sites down.

I paid $250 (for five), but the value was much more than that.

There were perhaps 1,000 people who were in the same situation as me (buying a $50 hosting deal).

If you think anvdesign obligations ceased when they were purchased, compare my arrangement to a bank loan. Would their repayment obligation cease, too? I think not!
Look at it the other way. If someone *owed* anvdesign money when they were purchased, wouldn't the purchasing company insist on being paid? You bet they would!

** When a company is purchased, isn't the purchasing company required to honor pre-paid business arrangements?
Aren't these like contracts? If the answer is no, I have a great get-rich-quick scheme! **

The exsisting clients are just lucky that someone honoured their business, instead of everybody losing...
