Would a T1 from Verio for $875 including a free router and free installation (not sure about local loop) be a good deal?

cheers,

That's an excellent price. One other suggestion, if you have not looked into them, AT&T was offering a special a couple of months ago where they would pay your local loop charges for a year. Of course, that was when they were trying to get us to switch off of our UUNET T1 :).

Its been my experience that companies bring out the best deals, when they already know you have a T1, and its not worth the hassle to switch.

so the local loop charge is monthly? how much extra is this (I know it very much depend on your location, but price per miles would be good)?

Well, we were about 1 mile from the Central Office, and in Verizon (nee Bell Atlantic) territory and we paid $300 a month, on top of UUNET's $1600 fee :).

We switched to a business DSL line and have been a lot happier :).

$300 a month for only one mile worth of local loop? Gee....

BTW... you use business DSL for your web hosting business? err.... I thought that was bad.... No?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to confuse. No, the DSL line is for our office connection. Our servers are all safely housed in a UUNET Data Center.

Yes, a DSL line for hosting customers is a very bad idea.

I looked through a couple of phone companies' web pages, and none of them list their local loop charges. You might want to try to call your local Telco and find out what the charges are. You also want to find out if your T1 provider will use an alternative (CLEC) provider. Their rates for local loops are usually significantly cheaper.

Why are you even thinking of T1?

Are you asking me? No, I am not getting a T1. I saw this banner while were shopping online. just want to share this information, who knows somebody needs a T1 and think that it's a good deal. For me it's better to colocate all my servers :D

Hmm, for that price, a T-1 could be a good thing. If you want to start up a dialup ISP, since most people only use up to a 56K, you can get a few T-1's and not worry about overselling. Or, some collocation or shared hosting for smaller sites (personal and/or business), since most people still don't get that much traffic. It's fine to cater to smaller client's and that's where most the money in shared hosting is anyway. I don't see anything wrong with a T-1 or two for hosting, as long as you cater to the right people, and especially for that price. Anyone know of any good deals on a T-3 or OC3?

According to boardwatch.com Level3 will sell you an OC3 for $2600 per month plus $275 per Mbsp you use - Which seems like a might fine deal to me, but that's all the info I have on it.
