This is the first time I have really searched for web hosting and there are a lot of places to go. I have found a few that may fir my needs, but how do I know I wont get screwed? I know that if I am buying stuff online I can check out resellerratings.com to see what their track record is. Is there something like this for web hosting companies? I am curious about "Stand By You Web Services". If there is such a resource can you point me to it, or if you know anything about this company can you share this with me? Thank you.

Take a look at the various webhosting directories. Most of them will have a reviews section where people will post their comments and experiences. Findmyhosting.com (http://findmyhosting.com) is a good one and it does not accept any form of paid advertising. Some of the other directories can be quite misleading because of the hosts that pay to get a good position makes the customer think they are a good company. ;)

Remember, you get what you pay for ;)

Be skeptical of hosts offering everything under the sun for $1.95 a month.

Reading reviews can help you decide if a company is right for you as well. For example, some companies have quicker support than others, but their support quality may be crap. Some companies may be more lenient with overusage and some companies will create custom plans for your needs. Reviews will let you know first hand how companies conduct their business.

Best to check the reviews and look the way the website is...
it is a very compititive market and you should know what you want and find whats beneficial for you. The best way is to check the hosting lists as well...

Like the others posted I would look around and get a good feel for a few companies, ask questions, call, etc. Sometimes those hosting review boards are advertising based but some are honest and good. Otherwise you could just ask this board, I'm sure everyone has a few words to so about ANY host ;).

Hello,

While its none of my business to respond here (and ignore me if you wish) I do think that we do not offer everything under the sun. I offer you what I can, and the prices are what i CAN offer. My support is great, prices are great, and customers are great. I am available online alot of time, and my other support reps are also available. I welcome all questions to sales@sbyweb.net and I continue to integrate my message that we are new, but dont let it scare you off.

SBY.

Whatever. Smells like Spam, is Spam.

Here is a pice of advice. If you register a domainname for someone, you just might want to use THEIR info. Or maybe you are all good buddies who just 'happened' by WHT all within the same week and all were waiting for some thread to start about you guys that you could all jump in on.

What are the odds?

Do you have common sense? They are the same company. Read the Whois. I even posted it in English since I thought that was your first language.

So you decided to move from one company that went under to the same company with a different name? Great move.

Hello,

Posts have been surfaced about the whois info similarities on sbyweb.net and xavopower.com

Are they similar. YES
Are we runned/owned by the same people. NO

I am SBYWEB Net.
They were xavopower.

They were a reseller account provided by xxxxxxxxx.net

We are a real company with real servers.

So why are they registered under the same people?

Simply because I knew him, yes his company went down and mine went up, all because I knew him. He had some leftover money and sold me his names, etc... I shut down xavopower and bbpowernet, simply because the name was damaged and there was no more use. I invite you to email me at jtbrown@safariserver.com so I can give you a means of contact for him. It will all be cleared up with that.

I am laying the business aside for this post i hope you udnerstand. I have done this simply because little kiddies whos only purpose is to point out everything wrong are (not just to me) making this forum go down.

I am a good host with good prices, if you remember xavopower's prices. Nearly tripled to mine. I do a ebtter business then he did. Its all plain and simple. Ive only been in business a few days it says that on the site. I willg et a new whois so that everyone can just take a break from it all

I appreciate your time to read this post, I will answer your questions, as will xavopower.com we await your comments via PRIVATE MEANS. (EMAIL, AOL, MSN, LIVE CHAT ON MY WEBSITE)

Thank you,
SBY.

Secondly, you call me a spammer, what about the guy who just said contact him so he can get a better fell for his needs. I understand it, i think the rules shouldnt disallow that. Yet that violates the rules now doesnt it.

As if I was not confused before. I am now. I really have no idea where I got their info. I have been searching for a new host and have links to ton's of them. It is really hard to look for hosting because of stuff like this. I am one of those unfortunate people that got caught up in that cyberwings scam and lost out on good money. My needs are not that big (at the moment) I am looking to host 5 domains. I will post them, but like I said I was with cyberwings and they are dead, right now I have zoneedit pointing to some free space my ISP supplied me.

1. www.62596.com Not a big site, but it is a memorial site for my brother and 18 others that were killed in the terrorist bombing of Khobar Towers in 1996. I do want to expand this site to include a forum because I was getting a lot of military visiting and wanted them to share their stories.

2. www.pccareandrepair.com my side business. Only need a little space but wanted numerous pccareandrepair.com pop accounts as well as webbased so I can check on the road.

3. thewoodfamily.us A personal family page for my family to stay in contact with a small forum, message board, calendar and a place for pictures and fantasy football stats.

4. brandyliston.us a memorial page for a family friend that passed away. Pictures and a message board

5. no domain yet, but a friend I wok with wants to do a small family page.

When I found cyberwings through the hot deals forum of Anandtech, I thought that it was a great find. I could have all those domains in one account and what appeared to be plenty of space and bandwidth. Well now that I am looking I have no idea how much bandwidth I really need and same with space. I wanted to play around with PHPBB. I had the 62596 site hosted on my free space and then went to a paid host that was $120 a year, well I can't afford that now. It is starting to look like I am going to have to spend big money to get a good host and I am starting to really feel leary about anything in my price range. They either offer too much to be true or to little for what I want. I guess the search continues.

Thanks for all the input! I will just lurk around here until I find something I feel confortable with.
