View Full Version : Clientexec or WHMCS
enotchnet 09-06-2008, 07:29 PM Hello WHT Community,
Can anyone share their experiences with using clientexec or WHMCS for their own billing system? I was a legacy user of clientexec but WHMCS seems to have many more features in a side to side comparison. I am also curious to see if the reseller options for either product have advantages when offering licenses to dedicated server or shared hosting clients.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Regards,
Ervin
WPSensei 09-06-2008, 07:44 PM I've used ClientExec for a short while and have used WHMCS for quite some time, since it was released. In my experience, WHMCS is the better of the two products. It loads much faster (from my testing) and provides a much cleaner, less cluttered interface.
WHMCS is a very powerful solution and allows for easy customization. It took only a few minutes to match it to the websites where I put it to use.
Overall, it's simply a great piece of software and I honestly haven't found better for the price.
JohnJ 09-06-2008, 08:20 PM My vote goes to WHMCS. I actually installed ClientExec on my server a few days ago. I got it setup for the most part but I absolutely hate how it functions.
TigerHostBD 09-09-2008, 04:47 AM I also like WHMCS and using it.I have also tried ClientExec but WHMCS seemed to me easier, neat and clean than ClientExec. But those hosts who want to start small should use ClientExec as for 25 clients ClientExec license is around 7$ per month.

Shaun [WhirlHost] 09-16-2008, 02:15 AM WHMCS for the win!
WHMCS has a load more features, is easier to skin and looks better (especially the new version)
We use it.
Hannan 10-09-2008, 04:53 AM In my experience WHMCS is better!
enotchnet 10-10-2008, 01:24 AM Thanks to all for their replies! I went ahead with WHMCS interestingly enough we got many signups since this change and the users find it very easy to use. One of needs is in the area of branding WHMCS to our site design. I see many offers on the design section of WHT so will look there.......
PogiWeb 10-10-2008, 02:58 AM I personally would look into what matters to you and your hosting company. I personally have chosen WHMCS, as it fits our needs at the moment. I would of course use ClientExec again if it had a few more features to fit my requirements.

Check out the guy above me, he does some good design integrations! (I've seen his portfolio)
I would have also recommended WHMCS, from a user stand point, it's much easier and less confusing to use compared to Clientexec! :)
Seemed like much praises for WHMCS's product. But what about their support when we need it?

They have a forum for user to user support:
http://forum.whmcs.com/
They also have support desk support:
http://support.whmcs.com/submitticket.php

When I had my integration done with them, Matt (The owner) always replied promptly... though that was quite a while ago, so I'm not sure about now.
I mean, how is their support service, be it good or bad, fast or slow, polite or not.
Courtix 10-10-2008, 10:46 AM I am using WHMCS and love it. :D

WHMCS Support service is very fast and you know that you can count on it. You usuaually have Matt replying to support tickets, and he is a very smart individual! I would recommend WHMCS to anyone starting up!!
Funkadelic 10-10-2008, 01:29 PM I think I speak for 99% of us when I say WHMCS.

Oh ok. Thanks for the information :)

WHMCS support is fine, but i've had my occasional issues with them. I can't say that i've had any since i've switched back to using WHMCS.

themuggle 10-10-2008, 11:22 PM I've been using WHMCS for over a year now, and I love it. The best billing script investment I've ever made :)
Does anyone remember phpmanager? those were the days..
So I should get an owned subscription instead?

I believe that I still have the script saved on my computer somewhere. Its crazy on how it changed so much!

I would personally recommend that you get a monthly leased license from www.licensepal.com . This would be a great way to first test out the script and see if this is what you really want to use. You can also purchase the 15 day free trial from WHMCS.com .

I'm intending to get an owned license from LicensePal lol

I'm sorry, I missed the owned part and I personally would get the unowned version.
Why? It is better if we get an owned license.
PogiWeb 10-11-2008, 01:15 AM Why? It is better if we get an owned license.
The only difference between owned and unowned is the "Power by WHM Solution " line at the bottom of the script. I personally do not really care if that line is their or not.

Owned license has 'powered by' line too! Unless you pay an extra fee to remove it :o
ishan 10-11-2008, 07:31 AM Owned License has limited support, & you have to renew support after an year or so. I personally find it better to have the monthly license, paid with an automated PayPal subscription.
I know. Renewing it is cheaper after following years :)
Leased --> $12.95 x 12 = $155.40 x 2 = $310.80 [2 year]
Owned --> $199.95 + $44.95 (upgrade+support) = $244.90 [2 year]
So which is cheaper? As for the upgrade and support for WHMCS for owned license, that is the price from WHMCS site, not LicensePal. So I'm not sure about the price charged at LicensePal.
So, owned license is actually way cheaper. Besides, we may not need the support if we got a hand of it.

What if you decide to change to a different billing system, or build a custom one to suit your needs ? That money would be wasted.
Licensepal does not provide upgrades/support, from 2nd year , you have to purchase them from WHMCS.com .
Ishan
Oh. Thats cheap anyway. I could easily sell the license away when I don't want it. At least, sell it for a few bucks of profit. While others still save as they got it for a way cheaper price :)
follower 10-11-2008, 09:21 AM I'm using whmcs. They reply in lightning speed, and their software is amazing.
LinuxStandard 10-14-2008, 09:11 AM huh!
My vote goes for ClientExec.
