Hello,

Sorry, Could a moderator please advise the best place for this as I wanted to add through the Design Section but could not see a general room for designer issues.

I paid for a Design on August 17th of $200 AUD = $235.xx to USD Conversion and then another $200 to the Designer on the 20th of August through PayPal.

Problem is, It is now the 4th of September with no Design, Would you think this is adequate?

Thanks

Is it a custom design? Also did the designer give you a time frame?

There was no time frame, Only that it would he would get onto it asap!
It is just a design that i wanted done and yeah there was a few changes and yes I will admit that I requested some changes to be done but it has been quite a while since those changes were made.

I was told it would take a turn around of 24-48hrs for the changes to be made.

Did the person showed you the progress of work?

Yes, There was a shown progress. But every time I went to view it nothing had changed. Though it was not always updated in 24hrs, It was only updated really when I had requested it to be done.

Thread moved to "Web Design and Content".

Looks to me like the terms of the deal were not set prior to starting work. At least a vague estimate of completion time should have been agreed upon.

As it is, if you don't have the patience for it anymore, you could ask to get the work in its current state, pay for the work up to this point (or request a partial refund), and hire someone else to complete the job.

For over $400,
I would not deem the situation acceptable.

I think it's time to establish a completion date,
And checkpoint dates where he/she will send a design update.

You may also what to discuss a prorated refund.

O.k the status stands as Unknown at the moment, I have seen an update of the design but still it is not finished. There are still some issues with CSS with IE and FireFox.

I have actually paid the $400 in Full, Which was probably the mistake I have made. As I am not much of a designer and hardly know anything about programming it really makes it difficult for me to see what is adequate.

It is now the 18th day and the design was finished yesterday, But as I have seen it with issues it will need to be done again. I was referred to this person through my Host and I trust my host, Well at least I thought I did!!!

I am contacting this person, to see what is happening. But as time zones vary for us it is getting really hard to get it done.

Sorry man, i hope things turn out for you. As a designer myself, i usually ask for at least half of the cost upfront and the rest when the project is done. You should never trust anyone that expects the whole amount upfront.
In a weird way you could consider yourself lucky that they just didn't run away with the money.

Good luck to you...

If they did I would know where to find them with my radar :stickout:
But yes, He never wanted it all up front but atleast half, The only reason I did it upfront is because I thought the design would be done by say 7 days because I was told it would be hopped onto ASAP!

And to add I gave $200 via PayPal through my Credit Card and another $200 3 days later through PayPal and my Credit Card, i did it because i could not of said I'd have the full amount by that 7th day.

Just in case of bills and other expenses.

I would contact him again and tell him your concerns. You should also just "mention" to your host about your problems. If you trust them, they probably wouldn't intentionally recommend someone like that so it would be helpful for them to know of the issue. Word it like that, that you dont hold them responsible and are only telling them this for possible future references they may give out.

As for your other thread, just remember everything you went through on this one and get everything in writing.

To be honest, I am not going to even try. I waited 23 days for the design and the coding was bad, Even the person who is on it now said it was horrible. "
My host won't get involved in the matter, Even though it was a recommendation, After the 13th day really I was getting frustrated and angry at how long it was taking

Well, I seem to know Kaety another Aussie so I am sure the outcome will be better seeing that our times are the same pretty much and not 5pm here and 2am there.

We will see the outcome and I'll keep it updated.:stickout:

I don't mean to play Devil's advocate but I'm actually a designer currently making a website for a client in Australia and normally I wouldn't take on such an endevour but because I personally know the client I said , OK. I'm in Canada and as it turns out I must say this has been one of the most difficult design situations I've ever encountered and I'll explain why.

The first and main problem I've encountered is that every little mundane detail that needs to be discussed becomes an ordeal because of the time difference and the ways of communication and the fact that a simple IN PERSON face to face discussion is impossible. So I've experienced an incredible waste of time making this project and consequentialy a complete loss of money for me. Because as we all know time is money and if something that is supposed to take 1 week actually takes 1 or 2 months . you actually lose money.

Now it's true that I can't speak for your situation based only on your version of the facts because there are always two sides to every story , I can only speak for my situation and I must say If I had to do it again I would not do it . From now on I will only deal with clients I can meet.
