And this has exactly what to do with the web hosting industry?

Its sad to see such a wonderful system die. But the upside to it all is that they inspired the creation of many other, and in my opinion, better networks.

Haze:

This is quite related to the hosting industry in the sense of the legal impications for ISPs and whatnot that decide to provide bandwidth to these people.

Nothing, but it doesn't have to be about web hosting in this forum.

napster is dead. Long live Kazaa Lite.

Kazaa lite. You get more pop ups just going to there than you get off Kazaa in 1 year.

Napster was the first that introduced a new era of filesharing.. due to their central servers they were unplugged quite fast .. after that all kazaas/scour exchanges and others started.. I think they deserve a bit more credit then "good they went down"...

Napster became popular very fast and went down faster.

Yes but the first is always the worst and Napster was rubbish.

Is there anybody interested in the domain name?

Just wonder.

In what napster.com? Doesn't seem to have much use for anything really other than traffic redirection or traffic renting. You can't put it to real use because everytime someone sees the domain they would be reminded of mp3 swapping, not your service.

a porn site would most likely pay for it, for the traffic it would generate.

Kazza is a piece of spyware. People that download that piece of crap should have no problem posting thier social security number below as well as thier credit card information.

WinMX is a much better deal, works better, offers more features and you can complain about how customizeable the software is. Looks like they just released version 3.33 too.

Its hard being the first to do something. Has everyone forgot the story behind Napster that was published in almost every news magazine? This college student dropped out of school and spent day and night programming this one program, alone. The thought of such a program with such widespread use had been unheard of at the time. Its easy to take an old idea and improve on it, by try thinking of a new idea yourself, now thats a challenge.

This doesnt apply just to Napster and the such, same thing with webhosting and pretty much everything else in life. Maybe its time to think outside the box.... you can only add so many .999s to your uptime before it gets old ;)
