View Full Version : spambouncer + raq4i + me = aarrgghh!
Christopher 09-04-2002, 12:01 AM I want to use spambouncer.
Installing it (downloading, unzipping, installing) seemed to go ok.
I set the variables in the .procmailrc file as I think they should be, and put it in the home/sites/site1/users/admin1 directory, which is the email that I want it to work with.
And, if I understand things correctly, that's it, it should work.
But...... no filtering, no blocking of '.alwaysblock' addresses, nothing happening in procmail.log Nothing seems to be happening at all.
Where am I going wrong?
Thanks,
Chris
cyrusTvirus 09-04-2002, 04:44 AM Do you see the program running when you do a ps -aux ??
Perhaps that is a start.
Christopher 09-04-2002, 09:34 AM No, I don't.
I don't know much about procmail stuff. If I understand things correctly, it is on and looks for .procmailrc in the user directory by default, no?
Chris
cyrusTvirus 09-04-2002, 10:08 AM Ohh you use procmail as spambuster.... ahhh didn't read it that carefull.
hmmm you should try spamassassin, which is a good choice for filtering out spam works great in combination with mailscanner.

blacknight 09-04-2002, 02:30 PM Could you post a link to the software please. It sounds interesting.
Christopher 09-04-2002, 04:27 PM Hi Blackknight,
It is at http://www.spambouncer.org
The things I like about it are that you can set it to autoreply to bounced messages, giving the user a password in case their email is legit. You can also set up your own 'white list' of email addresses to always let through, and a 'black list' of email addresses to always block. You can select which blackhole services to use.
And supposedly it is easy to install, however I seem to have run in to a problem...
Chris
blacknight 09-04-2002, 09:37 PM Looks very nice. I'll see if I can get it to work on a RAQ 4.

And does it work on the raq4 ???
blacknight 09-05-2002, 06:29 AM I haven't had a chance to play with it yet
Christopher 09-06-2002, 08:17 PM Blacknight,
If you get spambouncer working on your server please post instructions and the variables (.procmailrc file) you used. Or, if you would prefer, I would not mind paying a reasonable amount for the instructions :)
Thanks for giving this a try. I have played and played with it and haven't been able to figure out why it is not working for me,
Chris
Christopher 09-12-2002, 11:35 AM Hi,
Just checking in... Blacknight, have you had a chance to try this? or anyone else?
Thanks,
Chris
blacknight 09-12-2002, 01:26 PM I was going to, but got tied up with a PHP install on a RAQ 2 :D
I haven't forgotten
blacknight 09-14-2002, 11:27 AM I've been looking through the configuration. It is probably possible to set it up to work with all the mail on a server, but the default configuration files are aimed at setting it up on a per user basis, which is not a very practical setup.
If you really must have it I'm sure that we'd be able to get it working for you, though to be perfectly honest I find that using SpamAssassin catches 99% of the SPAM sent to me or my users.
The only SPAM that has got through in the last few weeks has been of the extremely 'fresh' variety.
ie. messages from new spammers that do not use the standard spam syntax in their emails.
(does that make sense)
SpamAssassin is very good tbh and I can't see any reason to replace it with anything else.
If you need help getting it setup send me a PM.
