View Full Version : My experience with Eservers.biz

We initially decided to use Rackshack as our server provider. Things were great until their support started slipping. Hardware problems throughout the entire time plagued us. I was aware of the hardware problems, and notified their staff however they were reluctant blaming me/my staff for screwing up the server so to speak for editing httpd.conf

In April I made the decision that Rackshack was no longer for us, since march was such a bad time 2 server replacements multiple seg fault errors because of bad ram, I began posting on WHT asking for server offers. Imran contacted me with an exceptional deal. However at that time I had decided it was time for us to buy high end system's and stay away from those duron's. I elected to purchase an initial server from Eservers.biz in the Dv2 facility.

Pings were fantastic, 13 hops and straight to the server, unfortunately now it’s 24, and cogent (but theirs some great news coming about that soon). We started shifting clients from our Rackshack boxes to the new dual processor machine. 2 boxes at Rackshack were empty and this box still had a load average of 0.25 :) (Still kicking now).

Over the next few months we struck up a good relationship with eservers, and began ordering more dual processor machines. All were delivered fairly quickly. I am personally impressed with their work ethics.

Price

- Although their has been only 2-3 instances that their have been network problems. These were sorted very quickly by eservers/dv2. Value for money is exceptional, one of the better deals around.

Support
- I have submitted approximately 5 tickets in the time I have been with them, and they have been extremely fast in responding. Below is some evidence :)

http://www.myacen.com/eservers.gif

In all my tickets were resolved in around 15 minutes maximum. Now Rackshack, I had tickets in their system for 3-4 days that weren't resolved. They always had to get a sys admin to check it, or their solution was a restore.

The service eservers provide after sales more than makes up for the wait that you endure on initial signup. It truly feels like a managed service.

However I do have some small gripes. Firstly server setup times. One of our servers we ordered was setup one month and one week after payment, but in true class Shazad offered one free month because of the extended wait.

I can honestly say that eservers saved our business. Rackshack seemed reluctant to replace hardware trying to lay the blame on us. We have had one problem with hardware at eservers, I notified Imran about a possible hardware problem with ram after seeing seg faults, literally seconds later he responded that the server would be going down for a check of the ram, and 10 minutes later we were up at full sail again.

I highly recommend eservers to anyone, even despite their recent problems with hostmania!

Support – 10/10

Price – 10/10

Network/Connectivity 8/10

I have to agree with everything you said.

All of the DV2 crew are great,
It is sad that eservers got caught up in the hostmania deal I hope they do not lose the excellent rep they have over it.
I think they were as taken by it as everyone else.

I've been monitoring two DV2 IPs for the past few weeks in anticipation of giving them some business, but in that time, the ping time from North Carolina has gone from sub-30ms, to about 150ms average last week, to 260ms over 13 hops as of this evening. The trouble starts as soon as the packets hit Cogent.

Can't wait to hear whatever the news may be.

To borrow one from Headsurfer, it starts with a letter close to the one that Rackshack's big surprise started with. :D

yep im pretty happy with eservers so far however they mucked up the setup on one of the servers. Im not sure if its MUCKED UP but is it okay having CPANEL installed on a server that has 0% Swap space?

No but it's ok to have a server that is using 0% swap :D

btw - you don't need any more than 128MB of swap unless you have a really, really, really demanding environment :D 128MB is usually heaps - you definitely don't need double your RAM :D

That's great to hear...

I wish they could've avoided the Hostmania problems... I've been waiting for a month now, and still have three weeks to wait. I don't like getting screwed... but I doubt I can find a better deal somewhere else :(

(Did you guys get your extra 512MB of RAM with your order? Just curious... they're telling me they can't promise I'll get it.)

every tracert I do with a server at DV2 has cogent all over it. I thought they were multi-homed? Is there an announcement of additional bandwidth providers??

Yes under normal circumstances it would be.. given the hostmania fiasco, eservers deserve a bit of slack with set up times for dv2 servers.... service with dv2/eservers has been FAR better than any other US provider for me, so YES, I think they are worth the wait... Just like the 3 year waiting list for a ferrarri.. :D

Do what I do and plan ahead.... order early.... planning is the key :D

How do you order a server from a "Special" when it hasn't been announced? I got their special in my inbox and decided to sign up for one.

Maybe I could've gone forward in time...?

Try their email or AIM, I'm sure they'd answer your question fully :D

well, people, I have to say this place WHT is good finding great answers and nice people to talk but is also really a land of confusion. I read a lot, almost every thread in some forums here, and I just can't get the attitude of some people. Weren't you Myacen that every time that there was a network problem related with eservers, you were posting immediately...I still remember your traceroutes here and there. And this was in the last 2 months...today, I see this thread. I understand that things might got better, and it's nice to hear problems to get resolved but...then....maybe you had made people avoid eservers...not me really as I don't have the patience to wait weeks and I don't compare a server with a Ferrari...in any case I think that many should reconsider their way of acting...just to avoid more confusion. And this thinking in an innocent way...I don't want to be evil and thing or immagine other 'stories'. In any case nice to hear that companies try and resolve problems and keep their quality standards.

When all is said and done, threads such as this one give very little objective information about the host/provider in question. For instance, here's what we've learned so far:

Their service is outstanding, yet you have to wait three weeks for a server.

The DV2 network is great, yet ping times are pushing 300 milliseconds.

They're multi-homed, yet traceroutes show only cogent.

When all is said and done, different people are impressed by different things. If you really want to know if a host/provider is right for you, you just need to sit down and investigate them for yourself.

Hey I admitted their network problems, did you bother reading my thread? Did you also see what score I gave the network?

:D - Everyone is entitled to their opinion and here at wht, a thread like this one couldn't go along without them being posted. good or bad :D

Such is life.

Just like to do a little update on this, eservers.biz is still the best dedicated host we have used. Support is fast, and i expect that network mark to increase soon.

What I have found is problems with Dv2, it seems that their support staff, don't work weekends. Although eservers.biz has tried contacting them (as have I) they are still yet to correct the problem with a server.

This might lead us to a decision to switch providers once again. We were happily going, now 5+ hours to respond to a priority 1 ticket is shocking, Rackshack was allot quicker than dv2. I feel Dv2, is holding back eservers.biz. The lack of staff on weekends is appalling. If hosts can provide 24/7 support, the least data centres can do is the same.

Heck I now know why people pay the extra $$$ to places like Rackspace, at least you always have someone on call to manually run fsck

In the interest of objectivity, I have just reviewed all my tickets with DV2 over the last three months...this includes weekday, weekend, night, a balanced combination.

My response times range from 3 minutes to 71 minutes with an average of 19 minutes. Also, most are issues I could have handled myself, except I wasn't in my office at the time.

If you don't have remote reboot access, I encourage you to add that service to your subscription.

All our servers have them, however it's another problem :bawling:
