All,

Ive run a couple phpBB sites for years and in the past year have moved them to phpbb3. While phpBB has come along way I am rather frustrated with the lack of mod management. I find it concerning that a simple site with some minor mods makes any minor update a rather involved process. Even with phpbb2 this was simpler with easymod. So we are clear im more than capable of doing the manual mod changes, but honestly in this day and age the time is just unwarranted. That on top of the constant mods falling out of support.

Im interested in anyone's experience with VBulletin and anyone who may have migrated from phpBB3. I do feel phpBB3 is on par with Vbulletin but Im looking for better support mod\upgrade management.

Thanks for any ideas,
Kyle

If you have a budget then go with VB most of the popular forums are with VB.

I understand that but any quantifiable reasons?

Coming from a long-time vBulletin user, I honestly feel vBulletin is far superior, however, you're comparing a commercial product with paid developers to a freely available product that is backed by its community and a few developers.

There's really no true comparison because it's not a comparison in the same level.

I will say that vBulletin, compared to phpBB, is a breeze to use, install and upgrade. They do have a conversion script which will pull your phpBB forums' data over to vBulletin and simplify the process.

In addition, vBulletin's Plug-In & Product system is one of the best modular systems I've had the pleasure of using. You can just as easily download modifications from vBulletin.org, once your purchase a license, and complete the installation from the vBulletin Admin CP without code modifications.

It's a great piece of software and if your budget allows for it, vBulletin is a great choice.
