Write better descriptions. If you have alot of page views, then your ad is ineffective if they arent clicking on it. Say something intresting, grabbing or unique. Sell yourself.

I looked at advertising at webhosting related keywords but the price was too high. unless you are prepared to pay some silly amounts (for me anyway) such as 3$-4$ per click then google lists you very low which in turn gets lots of views but not many clicks:(

Adwords is just not the best of programs to join. We have been using it for around 5 months and must say might have got one customer from it.
Anyway it has been stopped now and we are looking to attack the local market with print media.
Kind regards
Phillip
i used it for a while but wasn't impressed
Personally, I've found AdWords to be quite effective -- but then I haven't tried it for web hosting (yet; that's in the plans for later this week). But kkimmel is right, the key is in what your ad says: the description and especially the heading. A couple of tips: use "action words" that encourage people to click on your ad, and put something in that admittedly brief space that says something different from all the other ads on the page. And, yeah, you have to bid enough to get placed somewhere near the top.
Without a doubt, though, there's an art to writing the things -- on top of the art of selecting the right keywords to target.

We started our second compaign with adwords and we had good results with it. Our first day we had an increase of $400 in sales. Of course, once the interest drops off the amount of advertising time does also. Honestly have to say that we had an increase in people visiting our site that were referred by it. Only time will tell whether it is something we will continue to do in the future or look elsewhere.
