Geotrust is well known for not validating the identity of the ssl applicant. but I had a look at one of their certificate, actually the one on their website and the ssl cert says:

"This certificate is intended to:
Ensures the identity of a remote computer"

Why is there inconsistency between what they say in their cert and what they do? A user who doesn't know what Geotrust does/doesn't do will believe that the website has been authenticated and trust the website.

Anyone, who has Geotrust certs can you pls check and let the forum know what it says.

thanks

Thanks. that raises an interesting point.

1)do they check your id for the ssl cert or for displaying your true business id logo? two different products.
2)if they checked you for your ssl cert then what message do they display on yours and what message is being displayed on QuickSSL certs (QuickSSL does not offer validation).

thanks

thanks i have done as you suggested, but still can not differentiate whether this is a quickssl or not? Is there any ssl certificate that geotrust issue that has validation (not the seals but just the cert)?

All I am trying to see to see if the certs that Geotrust issue without validation says the following:

"This certificate is intended to:
Ensures the identity of a remote computer"

If so, this would be a serious issue.

So anyone who knows that they have bought a quickssl cert pls let us know what it says (or just tell us where it is so that we can have a look).

thanks
