View Full Version : ASP.NET + Unlimited MSSQL + Unlimited IIS Sites

Hi All,

I'm a web developer looking for cheap hosting that supports mssql and IIS. I use very little space and bandwidth but I can cut out lots of small sites just for testing and show-n-tell.

So I need cheap hosting that will let me go go crazy on IIS (half a dozen site instances would be enough) and the same amount of MSSQL databases.

I could go with just one MSSQL database and share it between the sites (the sites aren't critical at all) but the multiple IIS site instances is essential.

Any suggestions? Price is the key here, reliability comes second but only just.

Cheers,
X

softsys has unlimited domains for $22/mo reseller plan I think.

worth taking a look at. I recommend them.

Hi

so you want 6 websites and 6 SQL Dbs,

do you have a budget in mind?

unlimited domains just means unlimited domains pointing to the one site right? or is unlimited domains meaning I can have unlimited websites on IIS?

I am on a tight tight budget but will look at all options. Even if it doesn't end up coming within what i'm willing to spend, it'll be great to know as I will eventually get it when it becomes worthwhile.

The purpose of the hosting isn't important. A few users at most for site testing and show-n-tell. Not worth setting up a 50 dollars a month account for that. I don't make any money out of the sites I want to host.

Unlimited domains would mean unlimited websites on IIS (although with a shared reseller plan would not have direct access to IIS - you would be using the hosts control panel) If you prefer dealing with IIS directly you could also get a low end VPS (with SQL Server Express installed on the VPS)

Hello,

Yes, the VPS Hosting will be good solution for you. You can install on your VPS server what do you want.

That is correct. However, you'd be able to perform most of the IIS functions from a well designed control panel (eg. DotNetPanel) and you wouldn't need direct access to IIS.

Because of licensing issues, i'm not sure you'll find anyone doing unlimited MS SQL.

FIrstly I'll thank all of you for your contribution.

So what i'm hearing is that unlimited domains means I can use the control panel to create multiple IIS virtual directories, ie having unlimited sites.

MSSQL being unlimited isn't essential. With the right naming scheme I can work it out with just one database.

Having said that. Does anyone have any recommendations? Price is the key. Once again, I am using this for show and tell to only a few users at a time. I'm not going to spend heaps of money on this thing. Stability comes closely behind.

Thanks in advance.

We used to do unlimited domains and MSSQL 2005 databases on a few of our plans but I would recommend against it for other hosts. Basically now we offer VPS (which is unlimited domains) and a set number of MSSQL databases on our new MSSQL servers. This produces a more controlled environment than an unlimited setup. Once I would advise against going for any unlimited plans as basically you are sharing the SQL with other unlimited plans and you'll soon find resource usage issues.

Absolutely. That's very correct. If you want to get better quality and reliable hosting solution, never go for an unlimited setup. When there are limits setup, the host will be able to better control the server resources from getting exhausted and hence maintain the quality of hosting services.
