Hello. I have a web hosting company (~45 sites now) but I don't have my own server. I use a good reseller plan for hosting them but I'm thinking about the future. What should I do if the number of my clients increase rapidly? What about you guys? Would you trust the reselling way if you had around 150 sites-clients?

Ask your host if they have a way of moving your websites to a dedicated server, maybe without any downtime, when the time comes to move to your own dedicated server :)

Keep your reseller plan going dont stop it. Invest some money and get a dedicated server from a good provider.

Now make sure you learn the ins and outs of the server and the control panel you are using. You might need some staff for support or help on this issue or it is amazing how much info you can find on the internet or WHT.

Now slowly start adding your NEW clients to the dedicated server and use your reseller plan as a backup support site or something while still keeping customers on there also.

You will find it easier if you have a provider to move it all over for you as KIWI said but its not necessary.

We still have a hosting account with another company for a 3rd backup support in a different datacentre. ( Just in case anything might happen with the other too )

Oh and i almost forgot its a good idea to keep to the same control panel as your reseller account.

Kind regards
Phillip

I must say, I'm really glad to have found this site, there are really some great people that are willing to help. I'll be starting my hosting service soon too hopefully, and it's nice to know where I can look to for help. Keep up the good work guys.

I think it depends what you do. If the reseller plan works keep it.
Although if you dont think you can get enough customers quickly enough to cover the cost of the server then it may be better to move the reseller customers to the server.
It all depends on your cash flow and your expected number of customer etc.

Ok, I asked my host provider if ther offer dedicated server and -the most important- if they can move the sites without downtime. Both answers were positive. So, I'll keep reselling until the number of my clients will be 100-120. Then I'll move them to a dedicated server. I think this is the best way.
