View Full Version : this morning I found ....
sqposter 09-03-2002, 04:04 PM This morning I found exactly 1139 spams in my mail box. I was livid. to the point that I will announce that any time I see a host that is on the spews list I will quote them and reply to them that they are on spews.
People, we need to get rid of these spammers.
Did you know how much space these spams took up on my servers. About 34 megs. and that was for me only.
well all I have to say is death to spam

mahinder 09-03-2002, 04:48 PM use spamassis !! it works and marks your messags as ***spam*** and you can setup filter to delete any message with ***spam*** in subject line.
it comes free with cpanel but can be installed with any mail server
Darth 09-03-2002, 04:58 PM wow
It's almost impossible to live without spam.
conceptual 09-03-2002, 06:26 PM No somplaing spam will be here to the end of the world.
Paul-UKWSD 09-03-2002, 06:43 PM We get spam all the time, today got offered hosting from http://www.colohosts.com/fastwebhosting LOL!
:D
shaunewing 09-03-2002, 11:35 PM What I find even more annoying is the companies that I assume sell your address.
I've had a particular email mailbox for 2 years that is used by the server to send me announcements of any problems, etc.
Not one single spam has arrived there and I've *never* given the address to anybody.
I decide to signup for the InternetSeer monitoring service on the 21st August. I get halfway through their signup process (having submitted the email address already) and don't like their idea of signing up for such and such newsletters.
I abort the signup process, but I still get a message saying my monitoring has been activated.
Starting on the 29th of August, the spam started. Coincidence? I doubt it!.

Acronym BOY 09-04-2002, 12:07 AM Activly submit companies who do that, even after you request them to stop. Or a whois on the domain after a month if it continues. Than I attach print out of things like this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2014617.stm
And mail it to teh addresses found in the whois telling them stop as I am a resident of not only NYS but NYC and there will be legal action if there is any more unsolicited emails recevied. I also attach mail logs as well.
They usually stop than.

kkimmel 09-04-2002, 02:25 AM Spam is annoying, needless to say. But if you want to spend time and money on postage, toner, etc printing things out and mailing them to the responsible parties, you have way too much time on your hands. Personally, I think we ought to add spammers under The TCPA (47 USC Sec. 227 - http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/47/227.html) which allows you to sue junk faxers for as much as $1,500.00 per page of crap they aim at your fax machine.
I think this would serve as a deterient. But no, our legislature dosent want to do this, because then the flow of campaign money from the corporations responsible for flooding our mailboxes with this crap would come to a halt.
Wouldnt want to deprive our senators of a steak dinner over some lousy e-mail, now would we?
Acroplex 09-04-2002, 02:27 AM I love spam. Especially with horse radish sauce, honey mustard and green peppers on toast.

If you think it costs time and effort to print up a few pages and mail them out (takes me around 20 seconds per spammer, is 20 seconds worhth it to you?) you should look how much time is involved in taking them to court. Plus if they are a large company, they can easily outlast as you wont be able to afford much of a legal team as a small business.
Aussie Bob 09-04-2002, 03:11 AM Spam is something that we're going to have to live with. We can fight it and we all should, but self governed organisations like spews is not the answer. They do more damage than good, IMO.

ZBoca 09-04-2002, 03:14 AM I feel for anyone that has to delete 1,000+ messages.
I've been extremely lucky. I have 23 email accounts, and I don't think I get more than 1-2 spam emails a day. ;)

I get 10-20 spam mails daily. From where did the 1139 spams come from. You must have invited them.

(especially webmail like hotmail/mail.be etc) ..

I'm on an important e-mail list, that deals with a specific subject that I follow closely. One of there mailings went out by accident with every party CC instead of BCC and bang in 3 days everyone got spammed . and now it's getting worst.
Look for the newest spam report from SQposter

Man, I feel your pain, I hate spam. The previous posters are right though. Unless there are some laws that are passed, it is a scourge that we are going to have to live with.
OldOne 09-07-2002, 01:42 PM If you are getting spams, try to use another email ID and do not subscribe any free stuff with your new ID. That is the simplest way to get rid of those people.
