View Full Version : Under`rated Hosting Companies
Axel Teflon 09-03-2002, 01:37 PM I visit more than a few new hosting companies every day and wonder what their really for service. I do a few searches for them on the likes of WHT but don't get any, or much feedback.
Is anybody out their with a good host, or know a good host that you personal feel is under`rated in the web hosting world?
Paul-UKWSD 09-03-2002, 06:14 PM Sometimes the fact that you can't find much on a host is a good sign as it shows they havent done much wrong ;)
UmBillyCord 09-03-2002, 06:19 PM Amen!
WHT is like a Borg ship floating through space. It isn't large in reach, but it assimilates all who get in its path. Some host have been able to avoid it. Mnay have been able to build beautiful civilizations without the rath of WHT and its cheap-skate hive mind.
Yeah, like a zero credit rating. Sure, it's still zero, but it's not bad.
If the service was bad, people would climb to the highest point they could and hollor it through a megaphone.

coight 09-03-2002, 06:32 PM Everyday theirs new hosts that join here and offer a lot for not much. I will come back here in a year, and people will be offering 300gb's transfer for $10/year

Yeah.. and then you wake up and have your bowl or CornFlakes :emlaugh:
Yeah so we all know prices will go down alot, but 300gb for $10/year is just a little tiny bit over the top!
Anybody have any views on what they seriously think prices will be like by summer of 2003?

Well it's people who offer the earth that will not be here next year or the year after, there will be a fresh bunch of hosts offering the same crazy deals that can't be fulfilled :)

The problem is their is no protection for the customer. Look at cyberwings, yes maybe you can say it was $10 but if they had 1000 customers well that's a bit of money.

There are a few of us that still resist doing 300GB/mo for $100, and fight that battle each day with satirical commentary instead.
We're a small provider with about 80 dedicated servers and between 700-1000 sites and a couple of cabinets of colo-by-the-U clients. Most of our clients don't know what WHT is, and have no reason to look anywhere outside of our Tilted Planet. We've maintained excellent uptime, we've never lost a client due to satisfaction reasons, and we've been around for a few years. They pay for excellent service, and they get excellent service. Many have switched to us from cheaper providers (many of which have been mentioned around here) and have come to know what the "service" in "hosting service provider" really means.
So... No I guess this is one of those situations of "no news is good news".

UmBillyCord 09-03-2002, 07:21 PM tilted friend, I think you missed my point. You just basically summed up what I wrote. I agree with you and we follow the same principal at Umbillycord Host.

Sorry, if you remove the "No" at the bottom of my post, you'll see that I wasn't disagreeing with you. :)

jackor 09-03-2002, 07:42 PM yes, uplinkearth.com. you don't hear much about them here.. but I've been with them for 6 months now, and so far everything's been really perfect.
Fast & friendly responses from the helpdesk.
Servers haven't been down for a minute (that I know of).
Really fast servers.
They also send notices when they're about to do maintainances etc.
I'm a really satisfied customer.
bitserve 09-03-2002, 09:24 PM Our provider, catalog.com is underrated on here, yet supposedly popular on cnet. It's not hard to be underrated on WHT, there really isn't that big of an audience, considering.
Aussie Bob 09-03-2002, 10:47 PM Resistance is futile. Your knowledge will be added to our collective. We are the WHT. :D

There are also those of us that are fairly new and refuse to meet the prices of the cheapos out there ... those of us that do plan on being in business next year, and the year after. ;)

The borg post was a masterpiece.
People host and customers both seem to get lost in here and think it is the real world.
Barbara 09-04-2002, 11:53 AM I've been with AtomHost for almost 2 years now. I haven't seen them mentioned here, though. I don't need much in the way of tech support but whenever I've asked them a question, they've always answered me quickly and with the information that I need.
