ned patter 09-03-2002, 12:23 PM Most schools/college's have there own server etc.
Just ask but i would think it is there own.
Darth 09-03-2002, 12:25 PM Yes they have there own servers, this doesn't help ned i asked about the connection and where they could of got it from.
ned patter 09-03-2002, 12:26 PM Well how the earth do we know?:) .
Darth 09-03-2002, 12:28 PM You don't know but other people might know.
mdrussell 09-03-2002, 12:42 PM Why not traceroute from there and see who it goes through?
binasys 09-03-2002, 01:21 PM If it's higher education, it's more than likely connected to JANET (http://www.ja.net).
Darth 09-03-2002, 01:24 PM Yes, ja did show up.
shaunewing 09-03-2002, 01:45 PM Probably a frame relay or fibre connection through the telco to a high speed network/ISP.
You can basically get a connection any speed anywhere as long as you have the dollars to pay for it.

mcfcforever 09-03-2002, 01:51 PM The townhall, where my school is near has a t1 connaction. This is then split between about schools around town. So it comes out very slow.

My school had a 64kbit (128kbit when they felt like activating both channels) ISDN connection being shared among 3 computer labs and all the staff computers.
Believe me, you haven't felt slow until you've used that during lunch time when everybody is using the connection :D

Don't worry, I'm reaping the benefits now that I'm at University which has the budget for a faster connection.
For some reason I seem to get around 2000kbytes/s when it's busy :D

IGobyTerry 09-03-2002, 07:30 PM My school (high school that is) has a Dual T-1 Lines. Too bad all the computers suck too much that it even matters. For example we have like 700MHZ Gateway computers, which isn't bad. However they are so slow that multi-tasking is near impossible. I've offered to be like a "lab assistant" or something, but nope instead they go with the morons that no absolutely nothing about computers.
