I backup my accounts via cpanel backup. I run incremental and mount to a NAS. I have about 2GB in database and 3GB in files (500,000+ PNGs). Backup is hard on the server and it takes 17 hours to complete according to my logs. There must be a better option. Any advice?

rsync back up is better as it only backs up what has changed. bqbackup offers this type of service.

how is that different than incremental cpanel backup which uses rsync?

I wasn't aware cpanel had rsync features. I was only aware of the full cpanel backup which is resource intensive. I mainly deal with da. sorry.

Cpanel backups are really only resource intensive when you do full backups nightly instead of incremental. And thats not cpanels fault, its the tar.gz compression thats doing it. Its definitely smarter to use incrementals. Doing an offsite backup to someone like bqbackup is a great idea as well.

Full cPanel backups take 17 hours to complete? Is that really normal for cPanel? Even if it's a full backup, it seems to be taking too long in my opinion. What processor are you using?

Off-site backup is the only way to go. I outsource it to some Indian company. Really cheap and very efficient.
