Although i would only say to businesses/support emails

For example, you place a bid on eBay and win the auction... ebay sends you the email, but because its not a live person, they cannot send a reply to you. You forget completely about this auction, and the seller's attempte to contact you fail(when contacting using the webform) - its an automator sending you those messages as well...

seems like a great idea but what about lets say... hosting sign ups. We have a php script that takes all the users sign up information, send them an email and us an email to tell us that there is a new sign up. How would that work? Would we need an answer our own email and then it would come through? Same with support tickets?

Now when you say "you" hold the email is that mean they run through your server? what happens if your server crashed while waiting for the reply, what happens to our email?

A great idea but just wondering how this "real-life" situations would work.

what about replies to forum threads.. Since the thread is being sent by a cgi there is no one to "answer it"

Maybe if there was an option to allow certain domain names through without verification:

Such as ebay.com

that was my thinking exactly.. There should be a way to add certain domains just like our local firewall I can add IP's or domains to let through without request..

We have already thought of this! Your account includes a web-based admin panel where you can add enteries manually to either block or allow mail. You can do this on a per-address basis or make a blanket rule to allow or deny a paticular domain.

Additionally, you can sign into your web-based admin panel and view e-mails that are waiting for the user to verify them, (pending list option) and you can even customize the message that users recive when they are asked to verify thier account.

We assign you an @cognigenmail.com account. You then input your ISPs POP3 settings into our admin panel, and we reach out and fetch your mail.

Finally, you can setup auto-accept rules based on the subject of an e-mail. For instance, lets say you run a store called Lava Lamps, Inc. and you have your shopping cart set to send you an e-mail each time a customer places an order, and that subject always says "Lava Lamp Order #XXXX". You can setup our system to ALWAYS ALLOW or ALWAYS DELETE the message, regardless of who sent it or what the contents are anytime it sees "Lava Lamp Order" in the subject line of an e-mail address.

These would be a great example of accounts to add to the system. Of course, you can add whatever accounts you like. In the unlikely event that our mail servers did crash, you would not lose any mail. The servers are backed up on a daily basis using tape backups, and are constantly backed up using a redundant disk array.

We have multiple servers doing this, as well as several on "standby" which are ready to take the load of any fallen server. The worst thing that could happen is a service outage of an hour or less while we switch over to another server. Your backups would be restored soon thereafter.

Even if a hard drive fails, mail is not lost.

Basically, your mail is as safe as it would be at your ISP. If someone drops a bomb on our NOC, then yes, you would probably not have your mail. But if someone dropped a bomb on Earthlink's NOC, you wouldnt have it, either.

During the time that our service was down and out, anyone trying to mail you would recive transient mail errors, and the message would sit at thier ISP in the mail queue. When an ISPs mail server cannot reach the destination server, thier mail severs are usually set to retry every three to four hours on a failed message for at least 24 hours before they give up and return the item to it's sender.

Also, I forgot to mention something:

If you dont want to give us your login information for your mail, you can simply set your ISPs account to forward all of your mail to your new cognigen mail account, you@cognigenmail.com. Additionally, if you host your own servers, you can setup aliases as well.
