Thought this might be an interesting question.

Having a customer support team is a must with any web hosting business. But how often do you use it?

i check forums daily for service announcements, but as far as me actually contacting cust. support, id say about once every one or two weeks?

it also depends on downtime. during downtime i contact cust. support every, oh, ten minutes :D

im with valcato btw, and this past week or so has been particularly hairy and ive been usin it a lot

addon to the question might be, what do u use tech support for? for me its mostly downtime updates, and explanation on how to use/setup something (noob questions heh)

I hardly use the support at my host. When the servers are up and running and downtime is non-existent, the only time I'll email them is if I had a question or need help on another issue, but that's few and far between. As the above user mentioned, I also check their forums and such for announcements and general chat going on in there.

Best of luck,

David

I don't use them much. But it is nice to find something (every two months or so) so you can used them just to see if anybody is still around, time the response to gauge service quality issues.

Maybe once every 6 months, I usually figure whats wrong myself. The only time I contact them, if its a major error.

I'm with Hostpacket,
What is customer support,
we haven't received any emails with answers,
we haven't seen a post in the support forum for 4 days,
we are suppose to be able to chat with Kevin but that has been off for a week.

Personally I think customer support is a myth. This is my second Hosting company, and both have not responded when things go bad.

I typically smack customer support heavy at first through the learning curve of a new system.

Unfortunately, I have been popping more questions to them this go around. (3 trouble tickets)

I know I am "paying" for the service, but I feel like an agravatation to customer service. I am used to being in full control of the situation. I run an internal network for a medium sized long distance provider. ALthough similiar, a windows network and internet work much different.
For example, DNS propagation was a thread I posted earlier. DNS on my windows domains responds much differently.

I guess you get bit by crappy providers and when a good one comes along the trust is not there. I have been paranoid that these changes to DNS will put me behind in getting the sites up. I still have 3 domains to move.

I guess the scariest part is not being the "goto" person like I am at work. If something happens to my windows world, I fix it. Hell, its like my child. I know when she is sick and when she doesn't feel good. However, with my domains, the new provider is like a babysitter. My child is being feed and taken care of by someone else, for the most part.

People are afraid of change and most afraid when they lose control. I guess until I feel like my "child" is safe, I will use what ever means I can to ensure. Using Customer Service is like calling your baby sitter every hour when you are away to check on the child. After using the same baby sitter for a while, you trust them and don't call as much as in the beginning.

WOW this post of mine got way out of hand.

Dang did this post make sense.. Its late here....

It made perfect sense mate. You have three babysitters moving in to monitor your email...or something.. ;)
