Hello, my friend who is technically ignorant has asked me to help me with his site (someone else helped him before) and gave me credentials to his cpanel account. I have never done anything related to web hosting and I am confused.
I have read cpanel documentation and it mentions all these features such as phpMyAdmin or forum, counters, and other enhancements, but dont see any of these on the dashboard. I only see some very basic functions.
So my question is, are there different versions of cpanel? Maybe my friend has only a limited version?
on the right panel I see following:
Hosting package starter
Server Name phobos
cPanel Version 11.23.4-RELEASE

what does this mean?

thank you!

cPanel (actually WHM, which their host will be using) is very flexible. A lot of the options you may be looking for could simply be disabled.

What exactly are you looking to do, maybe someone can point you in the right direction if we knew what you were looking to do of course.

The things that you are looking for are under scripts library, Phpmyadmin should be under Mysql menu. You need to scroll down and explore each and every option. Other softwares lile Joomla, Wordpress you need to contact your host and ask them about these to enable.

Thank you for many replies! To the question what I am looking for, the answer is to at least use the features from documentation, i.e. phpMyAdmin.

Sorry I dont understand, where should I scroll down? I see the 'databases' section where I see three thingsL MySQLDatabases, MySqlDatabase Wizard and Remote MySQL. None of these allow me to do administration - i.e. viewing what is in DB.

Another thing I want to do is to add a counter on a website. It should be in some CGI center but I dont see it anywhere on a dashboard. :(

thans for your quick replies again.

Go to MySQL Databases and then look for the phpMyAdmin link which is often found towards the bottom. That's how you access it.

Some web hosts disable these; do you have Installatron or Fantastico available, instead?

No there is no phpMyAdmin link anywhere under MySQL Databases. Just some info about the current db name and user. But no way to view it or update.

I dont have any other info or software besides cpanel...

I suppose all these features are disabled.

thank you very much though.

All cPanel/WHM installations come with the full functionality of cPanel/WHM. However, web hosting providers using cPanel have a very substantial ability to customize the the cPanel interface, including the removal and addition of icons. I would recommend you contact your hosting provider for further guidance with regards to this situation.
