I've still got really bad FTP problems. FTP is running through the control panel but it will not let me log by any means possible. It si on a RaQ 4i with all the updates installed.

When I try to log in I get a timeout - therefore it is not a user issue but something else. It is on my local network so speed sould not be an issue.

I've tried disabling ftp through the control panel and that provides a socket area as it should, this leads me to believe that proftp is running but for some reason not accepting connections.

Can somebody please help - I'm getting really frustrated with this and its an essential part (obviously) of the system.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

OK, just a bit more infomation - I think it could be working it just times out. I can't understand why it would be that slow - even on my local network - so its not a bandwidth problem. I've tried with both the IP address and the host for one of the sites and nothing.

I'm using CuteFTP pro as my client and it times out after its default time which is completely unacceptable - even if I could get it to extend.

I've not yet managed to FTP into this machine since I@ve had it - I'm getting really desparate now. Has anyone got any ideas??

Thanks
Steve

Have you tried installing all the patches from Sun ?

If not try installing from bottom up all the patches from
http://sunsolve.sun.com/patches/cobalt/raq4.eng.html

Note : if it is installed, it will tell you so.

Just cut n paste the PKG url to the Maintenance/'Install Program' module.

That should do the trick.

Yep - they were all installed - found the problem - it was a reverse DNS issue. Thanks for all the help.

This is a great forum for newbies like me!!!!

That works fine with small pkg's but might result in a timeout with one of the big ones.
It's a lot safer to ftp them into the box and then load them via the control panel

Well, I did not know that. So far all the patches which I installed using this method works without a glitch. I guess I am just lucky or that they are still not 'big' enough.
