You can always ask your hosting provider what hardware they use - also various information is available at control panels (whm for example if you are a reseller).

A great tool that you can check the specs of a shared hosting server would be PhpSysInfo

Yes, you do need to install this within your file directory on your shared hosting account.

Unzip it, and upload the contents with ftp to a folder like phpsysinfo - call the script like http://yourdomain/phpsysinfo/
