View Full Version : My Experience with Dot5Hosting

Just in case, I left my old host Aletia about a little over a month ago. The server I was on was fine and there were no downtime issues. My two concerns were that one, I would not be able to expand my site. If all the users on that one server filled their storage to capacity, the server would not hold. And two, I feared that my server might go down the wrong way.

Anyway, after searching WHT I decided to go with dot5 for several reasons. But before I joined, I sent them about 10-15 questions about their service and company. I asked MANY specific questions based on my experience with many hosts.

First, I did not get a replywithin 36 hours. So I emailed Chris from these forums. I guess he pushed my questions through, because soon enough they were answered. Some of their answers surprised me and some perplexed me. It seemed as though the sales guy rushed through my questions. So then came a long series of emails between me, a sales guy, and Chris. In the end I decided to go with Dot5.

Speed and Control Panel
I have to say that the service has been SUPERB. I have not experienced any downtime or lag.

It took me a while to get used to the server and it's structure. I differed completely from Aletia and Hostrocket. But that's because it uses Ensim. I'm still trying to get used to Ensim. I still like CPanel better. The only other control panels I've used are host written ones and those are generally okay.

Support
But every time I have a question, it's usually something like: I can't find such and such in my control panel. And they respond in 24 hours to my questions. Or I post on their board. They're really good with replies. Tony always answers my tickets in a timely manner. =)

Support System
I really like their support system. It's great. At Aletia, I lose track of all my tickets and whatnot because there is no one place I can go for them. At Dot5, I log into the admin and I can see all my tickets, open and closed ones. That is definitely a plus! And it also tells me how long I have had the ticket in days/hours and how long since the last update on the ticket.

Other
Last week or so I asked my second domain to be added. And there were some conflicts in what I was getting and what I thought I would be getting based on my previous email correspondence with them.

But they were great. They promised me certain things in the emails and they gave it to me! it takes a LOT of guts to admit you are wrong and to do as promised. In previous situations, I had to leave the host because of this. This is a new for me.

Dot5 is a GREAT host in my opinion =) Just thought I'd say so. =)
Please feel free to ask my questions about dot5!

What is your web site?

How many of these dot5 customers are going to go raving mad over the service yet barely any have a web site to show performance...

Heh... I love the way no one can post anything positive of WHT without being scrutinized and accused of working for the company... god forbid any hosting companies actually provide good service

=) But consider this, since when was WHT placed here just to post negative or positive reviews of a host.

I say do away with both aspects =)

If they can post a positive view, or a negative view, I can be skeptical.

Yeah... I guess it's the skeptics who keep this place running smoothly :D

Um, I get nothing. Why does everyone think that I have to get paid to do something nice??? If it convinces you more, I'm a former Aletia moderator. Actually, still current moderator. Yeah, and I've been burned in effigy for that, so you don't usually hear me ringing bells for host. I'm just really happy right now. Sorry, I'm not a sourpuss like you people. ;)

It's ok, I actually like being a sourpuss, but not buying your line here.

You never answered about "What is your site address", you are offering nothing to believe that you are a customer, and just added even more to the skeptics by saying you've been a moderator for a previous hosting company, so I'd say ya full of beans.

Without exposing anything (URL for example), indeed there is a site listed, it is hosted by dot5. I can tell you that nothing seems off, so let's relax. I run everything even remotely similar to these types of posts just to check (some odd hobby you could say, heh).

Thank you for your kind comments, which site is it that we host for you?

Take care,

I don't feel like publishing my URL, is that a problem? If you are THAT interested PM me. I'm getting ridiculous amounts of SPAM, so I've removed my URL and email from many locations on the web. If you hopped on over to the Aletia boards, you could probably PM any member and find out.

I'll give you a hint. It's a variation of my username. ;)

clio.........
It doesn't matter what you say or how you try to defend your review.........there are always going to be those that are here just to be skeptical.........whether it is a good review or a bad one.(And skepticism is probably a good thing, but many go beyond that)
Since edude posted the link to the thread in the feedback forum I had a read there also and have replied with my personal opinion,
but of course I have only been here a couple of months and I am not a webhost so it probably means nothing to anyone except me.

Samuel is a real big sourpuss. Watch those Yorkies now. :D :stickout

Well, sourpuss or not. I'll say this here. I think it is disgusting that dot5hosting asks their customers to inundate us with 'thumbs up' reviews. If the rest of us did that, the web hosting forum would be nothing but a bunch of solicited reviews.

It should be against the rules to ask customers to do such things. It shows blatant disregard for WHT in general and desperation on the part of the host.

Drew...I don't think it is fair to make that assumption

Instead of bashing a host for an assumption why not just do as I suggested here
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70607&perpage=15&pagenumber=3

and go to the source..........

The source has admitted on this forum that he asks his customers to post. I'm sorry, but I don't believe they come up with all this on their own.

I believe what he said was something similar to:

"If a client tells me that they were referred by or came from WHT
then feel free to let them know how you found our service"

This is not an actual quote but I remember the conversation and I am quite confident that the words used were very similar..

Now that is a big difference from randomly asking your client to post
IMHO

edude

No, he said if hes client come from WHT, to post a review at WHT..

which is wrong, because if they just signed up, say 1 month, how can you post a full review in 1 month?

But apparently the good or bad is a problem.

The bad part they arent digging.

But I am sure they love the good part.

I agree samuel, and sparrow whocares it means the same thing spam..

most of their clients come from WHT anyway, since they run the ads here aswell...

and their google ranking isnt all that good.

Let me correct you and quote what your tech said

I realize that Chris has mentioned to some new customers that have found us by way of WHT, that they should reply to the people who suggested us to tell them if we work out well for them.

Personally I would consider it spam.. if not spam really walking the thin line of being it.. The main thing I do not understand if for the majority of us that visit WHT lately I have never seen so many "thumbs up" reviews for ANY host in the whole 1 1/2 years I have been scurrying through WHT.. I mean we have our typical newbie that says hey who should I host with and of course Site5, FurtureQuest and VO always pop up as they are long term high quality hosting companies.. But I have never seen customers coming here usually first post and giving award winning reviews to a host that they have only been with for a matter of days sometimes hours.. I myself could not picture asking or "suggesting" to customers than they may post "reviews" at WHT even if they are bad it would just make me personally feel uncomfortable but whatever is going on it is obviously working as this type of thread has become more than a weekly event.. that being said I would like to say I have nothing against Dot5 he seems to be a nice guy and hey I guess you do whatever works and that seems to be working for them.. cheers

How long has sparrow been with dot5 hosting now? All of five weeks. Gimme a Break! Believe me thats really a little bit deceptive to be leading anybody to believe any service is that great in such a short period of hosting. As you stated you were so excited after having a bad host you had to promote dot5 is a bit contradictory. Anybody saying that knows you can't intelligently judge that quickly unless its a disaster from the Get Go. Quite frankly I deal in E-Commerce and I need reliability 24/7. I dislike being rude but from the look of your sites uptime is something you don't need to worry about. Dot5 may be good but I grow even more skeptical of them when I look at your sites and your spam promoting them, sparrow. I don't want people deceived by anybody who hasn't been with them a some length of time.
