View Full Version : Quick Decision on Virtual Hosting
rk2000 03-18-2001, 01:52 AM I've been researching virtual hosts on this board and others and I now need to make a final decision within the next 2 weeks.
The site will require PHP4 / MySQL. I am looking to pay at most $40-$50 per month and would be looking to upgrade to a dedicated server within 6-8 months.
I have narrowed the search down to either Kryogen (myPHPHost), BurstNET, or VenturesOnline.
Would anyone have any recommendations, based upon personal experience, about server performance, customer service, and features. I would consider other host suggestions as well.
Thank you,
Rich
jtan15 03-18-2001, 01:53 AM Rich,
You should make your e-mail address available so hosts can contact you directly. :)
Martie 03-18-2001, 02:07 AM Well I can safely say I dont think you could go wrong with Vinay at Kryogen.
He has been around awhile and comes highly recommended.
You may find some users of Kryogen here, but if not try the http://www.sitepointforums.com
He is a moderator on that board, and I think you will find some clients of his there as well. Good choice!
baileysemt123 03-18-2001, 02:35 AM I would recommend doing a search on BurstNet both here and elsewhere on the web.
One result you'll come up with here could possibly be considered BurstNET's "finest hour":

This is only one of many examples of Burst's M.O. in "customer service" ~ I was a customer of theirs for a short while but quickly left. Even my cancellation took over three weeks to get processed, despite their own website promising 24-48 hours. (Yep, I have that in print). Now that I've reviewed Burst's many, many posts in this forum, I see that I made a good choice, and the level of service I observed is about "par" for many customers.

I am personally hosting with Ventures Online http://www.venturesonline.com and am very happy with the service. Their php/MySQL includes myphpAdmin which is a nifty tool for managing those databases and such. I have never used php/mySQL before and was really psyched to get it rolling and have it work nicely.
Tech support is outstanding, if it is even needed. :)

I do not know anything about the other company you mentioned, would have to defer to others' opinion.
Good luck!

superiorhost 03-18-2001, 02:35 AM I would pick Kryogen over the others. I have known him for a while now, and he is a good person and runs nice servers.
I honestly have never seen a bad post about his company yet. Vinay is very server smart, and runs a tight ship.

rk2000 03-18-2001, 02:57 AM Bailey ... I took a look at all the BurstNet posts and found alot of information about their recent purchase of UltraSpeed and a long thread about their billing - but not too much about their acutal performance and features.
But I will definitely take your advice and look around the web to see what else I can find and I'll post anything of interest to this thread.
Re: Kryogen - I've also heard and read alot of good things about Vinay. Would the fact that they are based in Canada raise any issues?
Thanks for all the advice.
akashik 03-18-2001, 03:04 AM Kryogen's been around quite a while as I understand it, and to my knowledge has a very good record. I haven't heard a bad word about them, and in general it seems it's other host companies who recommend them (which says something I think).

KDAWebServices 03-18-2001, 06:05 AM Kryogen, Vinay is a top person, very friendly and helpful. I've never heard a bad remark about them and they have been around for a while now and they know what they are doing and do it well.

it seems to be one fo most read thread.
bye
(I'm still waiting that some their users post 4-5 site, so I can try it from Italy.)
Vladimir 03-18-2001, 12:01 PM $40-$50 monthly for just PHP and MySQL ? But that's crazy amount of money! ;)
Please, don't think, that i'm adverstise something, but you can safely try us for a much lower price...(link in my signature) Again, it's not an advert., just a personal thought.
