Im planning to buy WHMCS but im looking at their system requirements it reads

* PHP Version 4.2.x or later
* MySQL Version 3.2.x or later
* Curl Support (with SSL support)
* GD Image Library
* Ioncube Loaders Support
* Open_basedir Disabled

My system meets all of the above but..I dont know or im guessing dont have Curl Support (with SSL support) I dont have SSL..does that mean i cant use it or what? I dont plan on getting SSL..so..will WHMCS still work and if it does will something be disable or etc..please let me know..

It means Curl should of been compiled with SSL support. Generally this is used to connect to payment gateways to transmit information securely.

This has nothing to do with a SSL certificate you would purchase to secure your website between the server and your visitors.

You can check if Curl supports SSL by looking at the output of phpinfo()

If you dont plan on using ssl, you have no business collecting client data. Thats just plain irresponsible.

I agree 100%, and there are several other things you should do to protect your client's data. With the past WHMCS security exploits, you may want to protect your system even further than needed to (database accessible only locally, password protected admin directory & changing directory location, and some other things).

Hi Mii Host,

WHMCS allow a trial period for you to test out their script - why not try using that and seeing how it goes for a week or so?

There is no need to discourage you from utilizing WHMCS however collecting private contact information is best done through SSL however many choose to not get an SSL when they plan on only utilizing PayPal. If you do plan on collecting CC info through your site directly - then by all means - you will need to spring for an SSL.

So to answer your question directly - no you do not need an SSL to run WHMCS - it adviced that you have one - but it is not needed for the system to operate correctly.

Good luck and feel free to continue asking questions as many of us here enjoy helping when and where we can. Don't be discouraged by those looking to do just that - discourage you. WHT is a great place to learn, grow, and experience the joys of this industry and the possible pitfalls to try and avoid.
