OK let's take a hypothetical situation, I love hearing the answer to these. A giant alien race comes down and will eradicate the whole planet unless you give yourself up to be tortured in the most excruciating and slowest of deaths.

And they give you two options: take the excruciating most painful and slowest death of all and everyone besides you lives or don't do it and the entire planet dies and you are kept alive with your immediate family, and/or your close personal someone...that's it.

Let's now argue about this situation will not work or ever happent, etc... I would just like to hear your viewpoint and which option you would select.

(Yes, when I'm bored on a weekend this is the stuff I start to contemplate - I know, I know :( )

What would you do? Why?

If the world was all milk and honey (which it isn't), I might just accept death. It's far from that though, which makes things more difficult. Everyone but your immediate family dead, society reset to its most pure form? All the pestillence, etc. gone?

Then again, Earth would be reduced to a bunch of people with genetic issues due to inbreeding. :eek:

I would choose death as in my son is the only immediate family I have. Unless the aliens threw in his mom as part of my immediate family, my ex, then I definetly would choose death :eek: I can't stand her!

But on a serious note it might be hard because I want to see my son grow up, but I won't be able to do that if he is dead. And say I did sacrifice myself, what if he grows up to be a serial killer, or a manical evil leader bent on world domination and destroys the world himself :confused:

A lot of what ifs... hard chose.

This will never happen. I was thinking if it really happens I will choose to stay alive with my family.

I'll take that slow painful death. The rest of the human race is worth more than me.

If my slow and painful death can be televised in every network in the world, and my parts are shot into space.

Also my family would never have to need anything again.

The entire world would have to take care of them, say 1 million dollars US per year per country for 60 years, then yea, slice and dice into mice size bites.

And THIS would be the biggest of all tortures so I would tell them to torture me as they wish AND nuke the damn planet :D :D

I would try to negotiate with them. After all, I'm sure it would be more enjoyment to them to just kill all the men and watch me re-populate the planet. I would also remind them to destroy all current sperm banks :D

well... the good thing to do would be to save the planet, and die an excrutiating death... however... getting rid of all the stupid, moneythirsty, powerhungry, leaders would really help the planet survive.

So... aks them to help get rid of all the waist so the animals can live a clean life again, and then live happily ever after with my darling husband, watching the planet evolve again... of course they would have to make us immortal, but I think that would be easy for them... :)
