Hello everyone,

I'm planning to give a try on plesk on a dedicated server soon. The box is already running with apache/php/mysql.. Since I haven't install plesk before, lemme ask this.
Do I have to install imap/smtp/ftp and etc after or before installing plesk? Or such services will be installed upon installing plesk?

Thanks.

You need a fresh os to install Plesk or any other CP, and most CP like Plesk comes with apache, ftp server, etc. Hope this could help.

this also applies with windows? i mean, if i will install plesk on windows, there's no need to add role such as dns and iis? plesk will automatically install everything?

iis needs to be installed first before install plesk on windows.
then plesk will install the rest.

cool, i thought all will be included including iis.

one more thing, say i got plesk installed (linux or win). when plesk was installed, it doesn't come with tomcat. now i got tomcat manually installed, is there a way to connect tomcat to plesk? so that service can be started/stopped/restart from plesk's service management.

make sure tomcat service is added in chkconfig list and then update the plesk components, Hope this works.

That's not true... the control panel companies just tell you that because most people don't know how to get their servers to a "clean" point. I have installed many control panels like cpanel, Plesk etc on servers that had other stuff without reformatting.

And do yourself a favor, use Atomic Rock Turtle's channel to install Plesk, not the installer.

Question, why do you suggest this? What does Atomic's channel have that PLESK's does not, is it simply faster or...?

It's faster to deploy and simplifies keeping Plesk updated. It's well supported by the author as as well. Updates and security fixes are included. It also includes any addons they offer. It's really just a matter of opinion, in my experience I've had really good luck using it; even in situations where Plesk installer had issues, ART installer was able to install with no errors.

no! not Plesk... go for DA.. from the great triangle (Plesk, cPanel, DA) it's the best panel..

Plesk comes with its own web server, mail server ,ftp server, database server and DNS server softwares. All required services will be setup once Plesk is installed. Only thing is that plesk should be installed on a fresh OS or else it can cause few problems.

Plesk and Cpanel control panel are some of the best control panel in the hosting industry. You can try any of them.
