What about an option for the thread starter to close the thread/reopen? :)

I am in the opinion that a thread starter should be able to open and close the thread. It cannot be reopened.

You can start a new thread. Your views?

In general, I don't feel this is something that users themselves should really be doing all that much. Would be quite confusing to have every member have the ability to close and open a thread, plus there are times we need to close it, period.

And there are times they need to be left open. Sometimes the thread starter just digs themselves a hole and it's to everyone's benefit to leave it open.
