View Full Version : Web design, Graphics
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 12:02 PM Hello. My name is Andy Kirk, and although I am only 14 (almost 15), I am already very skilled with graphics and HTML. I am starting a small online web-design site that will help me get better with HTML and graphics. I know a few guys who are really good with graphics, and I am personally very good with HTML coding, so if you need anything done or any help with a site, please email me. I am working on my personal business site now, and soon you will be able to visit http://www.foxsmoke-designs.com . I am obviously not pro yet so I do not do very big sites. I prefer smaller deals, such as local band sites, gameing clan sites, personal sites, and small business sites. My services are very cheap compared to other pro webmasters, so please take advantage with this oppertunity. If you need a banner, any other graphics, or even a WHOLE site done (including domain, hosting, EVERYTHING) I do it all, so please email me at andykirk@adelphia.net and we can work out some kind of deal. All payments are done using PayPal secure servers.
phpcoder 08-31-2002, 12:04 PM You might wan to post some previews of your past work :)
Brewer 08-31-2002, 12:05 PM Also, your link to your site is down.
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 12:52 PM Yes I know the link is down: "I am working on my personal business site now, and soon you will be able to visit http://www.foxsmoke-designs.com . " Keyword is soon. Will be up in a few days, domain fixing.
ok... hmm I will post work first of all any of you ever playt he game swat3? I ran a site called swat3ph but i gave it up. It is still out there unfinished (I lost a lot of my more recent work and decieded to go into smaller site desing instead). oif you go to http://www.swat3ph.com u can see a small example of my graphics. hat page says my site is down but if you go to: http://swat3ph.com/cgi-bin/templates/home.shtml you will see some of my work and graphics. Please, browse around that un-finished site a lot of it won't work but there is a small example using SSI. this is ALL my work vesides the intro page graphics and banner, but my friend sis those and I run foxsmoke designs with him.
Deranged 08-31-2002, 01:56 PM hmm, it's only html work with a big sized header..
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 02:20 PM Yes it is... I'm not quite pro yet I offer services to people who are looking for a SMALL html based site. But I am only 14, I have room to grow.
Deranged 08-31-2002, 03:49 PM Yeah, than, good luck.
I'm 15 years old and i already have my own company, i started graphics when i was 10-11 years old.
flitcher 08-31-2002, 04:13 PM
balabachi 08-31-2002, 04:28 PM Seems to be the place for teens to hang out?
Any Adults around?
dynamitehost 08-31-2002, 04:50 PM My bro does all my design work and he is 14 and a half.
http://www.dynamitehost.com
Sorry, but I wouldn't consider you as very skilled. Also, if your that good at html, why do you use microsoft frontpage for that swat site?
This isnt a flame btw :cartman:
exasko 08-31-2002, 05:01 PM Hey man...If you have aol or aim, instant messenage me. my user name is exasko. I think I have something for you
peachtreewebworks 08-31-2002, 05:13 PM Everyone sure likes to pounce :smash: on the new kid around here, huh?
He said he was starting out and offered his services. It seems that if you're interested, make a post or email him. If not, why pounce all over his thread? He wasn't asking for opinions of his work! :eek3:
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 05:14 PM oh yea sry I started that site 2 years ago when I still used frontpage and made the layout. I guess I should have done the layout over when I was more experienced.

A very old 32 here.
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 05:44 PM Thank you for your defense ptww
dynamitehost 08-31-2002, 05:58 PM He was falsely advertising.
He was giving an opinion of himself saying that he is very skilled when I don't think he is.....
Sorry, but thats the way I feel
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 06:34 PM I am sorry if I made that impression I didn't mean to. And yes I realize I wrote I was "very" skilled but when i said it I meant for 14 year olds. I guess I didn't know that a lot of 14 year olds are more skilled than me. I am sorry.
"I am obviously not pro yet so I do not do very big sites. I prefer smaller deals, such as local band sites, gameing clan sites, personal sites, and small business sites."
Samuel 08-31-2002, 06:36 PM Kids today.. hahaha
progex 08-31-2002, 06:47 PM Kids today.. hahaha
You seem very mature.
There's no need to act on this fellow 14-yr old. He simply showed his work hoping for some potential clients.
Let's show some respect. :)
dynamitehost 08-31-2002, 06:49 PM
Samuel 08-31-2002, 07:09 PM It was not an immature statement =)
With the recent shams by "Less than an adult" users on this board I am very wary of them.
Here today, gone tommorrow that's their nature, they can't help it.
TheMizz actually said we should have done more by warning him about dealing with the youth workforce on this board (Here comes the flames), at 32 I've had my share of run-ins with Youth, and can assure you that there are very few out there worth their weight over time.
They are exploring, discovering etc
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 07:10 PM Dynamite I respect you feelings about me, but I really didn['t mean to give you a false impression. I do do graphics, along with a few people who work with me, and if you don't like my work, or our graphics, then you by all emans do not have to use them. I m offering them at cheap prices for those who do like my simplicity, or graphic designs.
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 07:12 PM Samuel I can assure you I am not "here today, gone tomorrow". Sure this is jst the start of me on this bulletin but I have been doing websites for three years now, and will continue to grow up doing them because I find it fun. hat is also why do not charge much. If I am doing it for fun, why should I hurt my customer financialy?
Samuel 08-31-2002, 07:17 PM You shouldn't hurt your customer financially, and let's hope you actually follow through.
That is the point really, time.. time will tell.
My experience has shown that experience speaks for itself, you're a gamble for anyone paying anything BUT!, I do know one outfit that could use your help for very little money. PM'ing you, ok?
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 07:37 PM ok thank you I understand here you are coming from most kids Do come and go. Picking up PM...
PixelAxis 08-31-2002, 07:57 PM Good luck foxsmoke, I know its hard to get clients being young.
I'm only 14 too :)
conceptual 08-31-2002, 08:30 PM whoa your site shows you should have no problems getting clients R. K. Raja :stickout
I won't drop out I already have a small job at a small computer store here.
I'm only 14 now too. Seems to be a trend:stickout
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 09:20 PM lol thx guys...
Anywayz, I made these two layouts a while back when I was thinking about starting a gaming site, but then made a third and liked it best. I will sell BOTH layouts for a very small price... highests offer, if any, wins. Colors are easily changed by editing bitmap files.

Thanks for that, I realize that you only intention was to insult me and I am sure that foxsmoke knows that was not what I was doing.
It is a long and tired old joke "Kids today", it wasn't meant towards any one kid.
I didn't make it, I didn't write it, I regurgitated it.
foxsmoke 08-31-2002, 11:30 PM Does anyone wanna talk about what this thread is about?
What do you all think of my layouts? Not worth a penny...?
Ok how about this..... I will sell both layouts for the highest bid starting at only $5
Or is it not worth that...?
ZzPcPzZ 09-01-2002, 12:57 AM wow, never knew so many teens here just like me :-)
anyway i am almost 15, so bah. :D
EasySite 09-01-2002, 12:58 AM I have to say, I am proud of you for starting a graphics business at 14. It is a good age to start learning about business.
#1 Rule
Do not give away anything for free!
Doing so will hurt you financially in the near future, when you actually have to make money.
Also, this just hurts the rest of us that actually have a mortgage and family to feed.
IMHO you may have a hard time selling your templates in this forum. There are several very talented designers that sell their templates very cheep. Just a short three years ago, that gaming site would sell for about $10,000. Those days are over now :bawling: due to the fact that everyones brother or sister is a site designer.
Spend some time looking at template sites, download some free templates and get an Idea of how they are put together. Also check out coolhomepages.com a good source for Ideas. If you spend only 60 days of your life learning about good design it will benefit you forever.
foxsmoke 09-01-2002, 01:39 AM wow thanx for the info...
My reason for selling cheap is to work up a small portfolio.. lol I realize those templates are REALLY badly made. I have a really good one I have been working on for several hours now, and I think you will like it when I release it.
BTW, I want to remind you we also do graphics. I have a few very talented artists on my team... maybe I should post some examples of thier work?
GloballyNone 09-01-2002, 01:54 AM The best thing I can say for you to do fox is to make a bunch of templates. Just make make make make until your tired then take a nice big rest and start again. This will raise your skill level. Use graphics programs. Always look at something and wander why and how and don't be too lazy to find out or try. Try to copy sites just to gain skill but don't try to sell a site you copied I think we all know why not to. Basically what I'm saying is practice. If you want to open up a design team you will need to do "more" then just html. Not that it's bad but html is just html and its not eye catching. Just my 1/50 of a dollar.
you should show as much work as you can....'Good' work, that is..
foxsmoke 09-01-2002, 12:06 PM Yea I understand I am working on my website and portfolio now...
In afew when it is all up I will have examples of my 'better' work.
IRCCo Jeff 09-03-2002, 03:17 PM You kids need to run along before the county sherrifs try to arrest me again ;)
foxsmoke 09-03-2002, 05:09 PM was that intended as an insult...?
IRCCo Jeff 09-03-2002, 06:52 PM Yes, but not toward you. It was an insult toward the Virginia state law enforcement ;)
foxsmoke 09-03-2002, 07:05 PM
webkami 09-05-2002, 07:01 PM Teens on work????
whats the minimum age limit for child to go to work ????
PixelAxis 09-05-2002, 08:48 PM Children's rights :D
k3bab 09-05-2002, 11:01 PM heheheh foxsmoke: nice to see you going into something positive at that age. I believe you will have a hard time "selling" stuff on this forum at this stage because it appears to be filled with professionals.
Stick around and learn, you will get better day by day and soon perhaps you can sell your work.
I strongly recommend backend programming if you are truly interested in web dev. start off early and in a few years you will be as good as a pro.
Small projects can help you tighten up your artistic skills (graphics) and pick up some good techniques.
I started with a CS server site which of course I did for free, as I enjoyed the work and it was a hobby for me.
if you would like advice or help get in touch
foxsmoke 09-07-2002, 11:45 AM thank you
JaysonH 10-21-2002, 04:30 AM I find it funny that everyone and there mother has to say "IM such and such and I own my own company". Not meaning to flame anyone out there, but having your own website, and trying to sell web-designs isnt a company. :)
Just thought I would clarify that.

Haaaang on a sec
Actually you are wrong, you can have a company without employees, you can be the only one in that company. You can say its a company AS LONG AS IT IS registered.
For example in UK we have Companies House which registers LTD limited companies. So when you see a company branding like Company Name Ltd. by definition its a company! On the other hand if one isn’t registered that way, he/she is most probably working as a sole trader (even though they might not realize it). So in that case you are right: they don't own a company.
Having a website and selling web designs is a perfectly normal thing, of course it’s not a company if it isn’t legitimately registered.
JaysonH 10-22-2002, 12:51 AM Thats where I was getting at. I just get annoyed with these kids coming on here bragging about how they think they own a company. When all they really own is a domain name with a website they made, and nothing else.
Kids, thats not considered a company, tQ.
k3bab 10-22-2002, 12:14 PM hahahaha yes, everyone seems to own a web hosting company around here LOL.
