What are hosts using to monitor uptime , and if there is any problems with the servers.
I'm talking about the ones which will send you an email or phone message when there is problems.
HyperSpin (http://www.hyperspin.com/en/) is widely used by alot of hosts.

We've used Hyperspin for a couple of years now with no problems, therefore I can recommend them :)
Before http://www.hyperspin.com we used http://www.websitepulse.com/ and received the occasional false report, not too much of a problem for us, but when they increased pricing several 100% we had to jump ship.

We're testing out www.site24x7.com and I'm quite impressed. Although there was a few times it gave us some really weird numbers, they were fixed the same day.

http://wormly.com has been perfect for me, granted I've been using it for only 2 days but it's been amazing. I have my server checked every minute and the statistics and reports it generates are outstanding.

You want a serious NOC monitoring application?
SolarWinds is the way to go if you are Serious.

IPswitch is pretty good. especially if you have large number of servers. For few servers something like alertra is fine. also checkout nagios if you dont like idea of paying money to others:)

Solarwinds is an awsome program, but be prepared to spend more than a pretty penny on the program!!
We've used NOCWizard (still using it but seems defunct), NOCManager (now defunct), and some others that have since met their demise. It's a shame that the inexpensive ones disapear. I have no problems spending $1000-$2000 on a one time purchase for 100 servers lets say, but we're currently monitoring more than 200 machines - using a service like Hiperspin can get very expensive very quickly with 200 servers and 6 scans on each machine (ping, pop3, smtp, mysql, httpd, ftp).

Using Hyperspin for remote monitoring, and monit for local monitoring
